• Income above APL — Patwari verified higher income. Counter with IT return / payslip.
• SECC 2011 ranking puts you in APL — appeal to State Nodal for re-ranking.
• Aadhaar mismatch — names of family members must match. Update.
• Field verification failed — Patwari didn't visit / found different family.

1. Check rejection reason — State portal (e.g., epds.bihar.gov.in, fcs.up.gov.in) → Application Status. SMS also sent.
2. Verify SECC 2011 ranking — awaassoft.nic.in/netiay/Benificiary.aspx → search by Aadhaar / name. If different from claim: file RTI to BDO + State Nodal.
3. If “already in another state” — Apply for surrender (Form 8/9) in old state. Then re-apply in current state.
4. If “income above ceiling” — Submit IT return showing actual income < ceiling. Or counter affidavit + Patwari's report (RTI for it).
5. If field verification failed — Re-apply with neighbours' affidavit confirming residence + family details. Patwari has to re-visit.
6. Appeal to Food Inspector — Within 30 days. Free. Hand-delivered to office. Cite NFSA §14 + state-specific RTPS.
7. Further appeal to Asstt Director Food — If Food Inspector rejects. Then State Food Commissioner (final).
8. RTI parallel — To Tehsildar + Patwari + Asstt Director — for the file, verification report, decision rationale.

5. The procedure + timeline for filing an appeal + the office of the appellate authority.
