Ration Card Status Check 2026 — State Food Portal Guide
Quick answer. There is no single national page to check ration card status. Each state runs its own Food and Civil Supplies portal. The reliable starting point is the NFSA state portal directory — nfsa.gov.in → Ration Card details on State Portals — run by the National Informatics Centre for the Department of Food and Public Distribution. Pick your state, open its food portal, then use:
- Beneficiary / Ration Card List — to confirm an existing card and family members.
- Application Status / Track Application — to check a new card or correction, using the acknowledgement (reference) number from your receipt.
If you are short on time: jump to How to check your ration card status below. Use only the official state portal. Never pay an agent or share an OTP.

Quick summary (2026)
- Law: National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA).
- Central portal: nfsa.gov.in (information + state directory).
- Where status lives: your state Food and Civil Supplies portal, opened from the NFSA state directory.
- Two checks: beneficiary list (existing card) and application status (new card or correction).
- Safety: the official portal never asks you to pay an agent or share an OTP.
What a ration card status check tells you
A ration card (राशन कार्ड) is issued by your state government under NFSA. Two different questions get confused as “status”:
- Is my card valid and is my family listed? — check the beneficiary / ration card list on the state portal.
- Where is my new card / correction request? — check the application status using your acknowledgement number.
Because ration cards are a State subject, the screens, labels and timelines differ by state. The flow below is the common pattern; your state may name the buttons slightly differently.
How to check your ration card status
Step 1 — Open the NFSA state directory
- Click your state or UT from the list. This opens your state Food and Civil Supplies portal — the only place with live, current data.
Step 2 — Check the beneficiary / ration card list
- On the state portal, find Ration Card List, Beneficiary or RC Drilldown report in the menu.
- Select district → block / town → gram panchayat / ward → Fair Price Shop (FPS).
- Find your card number or name in the FPS list. This confirms the card is active and shows linked family members.
Step 3 — Check a new application or correction
- On the state portal, open Application Status, Track Application or Know Your Application.
- Enter the acknowledgement / reference number printed on your application receipt.
- The status shows where the file is — pending verification, approved, printed or rejected.
Details you may need
| Detail | Where you find it |
| Acknowledgement / reference number | Application receipt or SMS sent at the time of applying |
|---|---|
| Ration card number | Existing card, or the state portal beneficiary list |
| Registered mobile number | The number given during application |
| District / block / FPS | Your local area details, used to drill down the list |
| Aadhaar number | Needed for seeding and e-KYC checks in most states |
What each status may mean
| Status shown | What it usually means |
| Pending / Under Verification | The application is with the Food Inspector or block office for field check. |
|---|---|
| Approved / Generated | The card is sanctioned; print or download may be enabled. |
| Printed / Dispatched | The card is printed and on its way, or ready for collection. |
| Sent Back / Query Raised | A document or detail is missing — log in and fix it. |
| Rejected | Application turned down; the reason is usually shown. You can re-apply or appeal. |
Status labels vary by state. If a label is unclear, treat the state helpline number on the portal as the next step.
One Nation One Ration Card and the Mera Ration app
Under One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC), an NFSA cardholder can draw rations from any linked Fair Price Shop across India. The government's Mera Ration app lets you check eligibility, nearby FPS and portability details. ONORC needs your ration card to be Aadhaar-seeded. If portability fails, the usual cause is incomplete Aadhaar seeding — fix it on your state portal first.
If your application is stuck or rejected
- Re-check documents. Most rejections are for an address proof, Aadhaar mismatch or income proof. Log in and correct what is flagged.
- Visit the office. The Taluk Supply Office / Circle / Block office handles ration card files. Carry your acknowledgement number.
- Use the state grievance line. Every state food portal has a grievance / helpline link. Lodge a complaint and keep the complaint number.
- Escalate with RTI if it stays stuck beyond your state's service deadline.
RTI angle for ration card delays
If your card is stuck well beyond the normal time, an RTI to the District Supply Office often moves it. RTI is your right under the Right to Information Act, 2005.
- For a delayed new card or correction, see RTI for ration card status and what to do when a ration card is stuck.
- If your card was cancelled or deleted, see RTI for a cancelled ration card.
- To check a name was actually added, see ration card verification by RTI.
- Draft it in minutes with the RTI Drafter. The PIO must reply within 30 days under §7(1).
Safety warnings
- The official portal never asks you to pay a private agent to “approve” a card.
- Never share your Aadhaar OTP with anyone who calls or messages you.
- Ignore “ration card” links sent on WhatsApp — open the state portal only from the NFSA directory.
- Adding a fake member or hiding income on a ration card is an offence under NFSA.
Frequently asked questions
Is there one national website to check ration card status?
No. Ration cards are issued by states, so status lives on each state Food and Civil Supplies portal. Open yours from the NFSA state directory. The NFSA site itself holds information and the directory, not live state-level application status.
How long does a new ration card take in 2026?
It depends on the state. Many states fix a deadline under their Right to Service / Public Service Guarantee Act, often 15 to 30 days after verification. Check the timeline shown on your state portal. Beyond that deadline, file a grievance, then an RTI.
My name is missing from the ration card list. What do I do?
First confirm you searched the correct FPS and district. If the name is genuinely missing, apply for name addition on the state portal and keep the acknowledgement number. See name addition or deletion pending for the steps and escalation.
Can I check status without the acknowledgement number?
For an existing card, yes — use the beneficiary list by district and FPS. For a new application, most state portals need the acknowledgement number. If you lost it, visit the Taluk Supply / Circle office with your ID to retrieve it.
What is the Mera Ration app for?
It is the government app for One Nation One Ration Card. Use it to check portability, nearby Fair Price Shops and whether your Aadhaar is seeded. It does not replace your state portal for application status.
