• Name mismatch with Aadhaar — must match exactly. Initials vs full name fails.
• DoB mismatch — PAN vs Aadhaar / 10th certificate. Pick authoritative.
• Address proof in regional language — translation + notarisation needed.
• Existing PAN under same identity — possible duplicate. Surrender + apply correction.

1. Check rejection reason — NSDL/UTIITSL emails the reason. Login with 15-digit acknowledgement.
2. Photo/signature issue — Re-take: white background, head covering 70-80% of frame, recent. Signature in black ink within box.
3. Name mismatch — Update Aadhaar OR re-submit Form 49A with name as on Aadhaar. Aadhaar usually wins.
4. DoB mismatch — Submit birth certificate / 10th marksheet as authoritative DoB source. May require correction in PAN.
5. Address proof rejected — Use Aadhaar (single doc covers PoI + PoA + PoDOB). If using utility bill, must be ≤3 months + in name of applicant or family.
6. Re-submit within 30 days — NSDL: Login → “Re-submit Documents”. Free if within 30 days. After: fresh application Rs 107.
7. Escalate via grievance + RTI — NSDL helpdesk 020-27218080. RTI to CBDT Income Tax Dept for institutional rejection patterns.

• Statutory appeal route: No formal appeal under Income Tax Act for PAN rejection. Grievance to NSDL helpdesk + RTI to CBDT for systemic issues. CPGRAMS for general grievance.
• Appeal window: Re-submission free within 30 days. After: fresh application.

4. Number of similar applications in the past 12 months that were (a) approved, (b) rejected — for the same officer.
5. The procedure + timeline for filing an appeal + the office of the appellate authority.
