Aadhaar seeding failed for LPG, ration or pension: fix the right link

Aadhaar seeding failed in LPG, ration or pension? Fix it

Start by deciding which of two links broke, because they are repaired in different places.

  • If the ration shop machine says “Aadhaar not seeded”, the scheme record is the problem. Go to the fair price shop or the food office with your ration card and Aadhaar.
  • If your LPG subsidy or pension stops reaching the bank even though the office says you are linked, the NPCI mapper is the problem. Go to your bank branch, not the scheme office.
  • If the failure message mentions a name or number mismatch, fix the mismatch first, in Aadhaar or in the scheme record, then seed again. Seeding over a mismatch just fails again.
  • If you do not know which it is, check Bank Seeding Status on myAadhaar. It shows which bank, if any, the NPCI mapper currently points to.

Seeding and linking are two different wires

People use “linking” for everything, and that is why fixes go to the wrong office. There are two separate wires.

Scheme seeding records your Aadhaar number inside the benefit record: your LPG consumer number with the oil company, each family member against the ration card in the state PDS database, your PPO number at the pension office. This is a KYC link. It proves you are the beneficiary.

NPCI mapping is a single national pointer that says which one bank account receives your Direct Benefit Transfer. Your bank updates it when you sign an Aadhaar seeding consent form at the branch. The newest consent wins, so opening a new account and seeding it silently moves all your DBT money there.

A benefit can fail when either wire is loose. The scheme office cannot see or fix the NPCI mapper, and your bank cannot seed your ration card. Check both before you queue anywhere.

Where each record gets seeded

Benefit Seed the scheme record at Bank money flows via
LPG subsidy (PAHAL, Ujjwala) Your distributor, or mylpg.in NPCI mapper, fixed at your bank branch
Ration (NFSA) Fair price shop or food office; many states allow it on the state PDS portal listed at nfsa.gov.in Mostly no bank leg; cash-transfer states use the mapper
Social or government pension Pension disbursing office, with your PPO number NPCI mapper or direct account credit, per scheme

Savitri Devi's missing Rs 900

Savitri Devi, an Ujjwala beneficiary in Sitapur, paid Rs 803 for each 14.2 kg refill, expecting the Rs 300 Ujjwala subsidy back in her bank account. From January to March 2026 she bought three refills and received nothing: Rs 900 missing. The distributor insisted her Aadhaar was “linked”, and he was right, the LPG consumer record was seeded.

The broken wire was the mapper. Her old bank account, the one NPCI pointed to, had been closed in December. Bank Seeding Status on myAadhaar showed the closed bank as still mapped. She took her Aadhaar and new passbook to her new bank branch, signed the Aadhaar seeding consent form, and the mapper moved in four working days. Her April refill subsidy came on time. The Rs 900 arrears needed one written grievance to the oil company quoting her LPG consumer number and the three refill dates, and were credited five weeks later. Nothing in this fix happened at the distributor's shop.

A short request that gets seeding done

Carry two copies and take an acknowledgement on yours.

To: The Manager, [Bank branch] / The District Supply Officer / The Pension Disbursing Officer

Subject: Request to seed Aadhaar with my [account / ration card / PPO] record

I am [name], holder of [account number / ration card number / PPO number].
My benefit under [scheme] has stopped with the message: [exact words from SMS or slip].

I request you to:
1. Seed my Aadhaar (last 4 digits XXXX) with the above record, with my consent.
2. For bank seeding, update the NPCI mapper to this account.
3. Give me a written acknowledgement with today's date and a reference number.

Enclosed: self-attested Aadhaar copy, [passbook / ration card / PPO] copy.

Name, mobile, date, signature.

If it stays stuck: grievance, then RTI

Oil marketing companies, state food departments and pension offices are all public authorities. So is your public sector bank. If the acknowledged request goes nowhere in two or three weeks, use the scheme helpline (LPG 1906, NFSA helpline of your state), then CPGRAMS at pgportal.gov.in. After that, an RTI to the concerned office can ask: the recorded seeding status against your consumer, card or PPO number, the date and reason any seeding attempt failed, and the action taken on your grievance reference. State PDS records sit with state PIOs, so use the state RTI portal directory to find the right channel, and see how to file RTI online for central bodies. RTI cannot perform the seeding, but a PIO's written answer usually names the exact deficiency, which is what you actually need.

FAQs

How do I check which bank account my DBT money goes to?

Log in to myAadhaar and open Bank Seeding Status. It shows the bank currently active in the NPCI mapper. It does not show the account number, so confirm details at that bank.

I changed banks and my subsidy vanished. Why?

Closing the mapped account breaks the pointer. Sign a fresh Aadhaar seeding consent at the new bank so the mapper moves. This exact failure is covered in depth in Aadhaar linked to the wrong bank account for DBT.

The ration shop machine fails even though my card is seeded.

That is usually a fingerprint authentication failure, not a seeding failure. Ask for OTP or face authentication, and read Aadhaar authentication failure at the bank or ration shop.

A name mismatch is blocking my pension seeding. Which record do I correct?

Correct whichever record is wrong. If Aadhaar carries the error, fix it there first, mindful of update limits, see name correction after marriage or divorce. If the PPO is wrong, the pension sanctioning office corrects it.

Does every family member need seeding on the ration card?

Yes, states seed each member's Aadhaar against the card. A member whose Aadhaar is unseeded can be denied their quota or dropped during cleanup drives. Carry everyone's Aadhaar to the food office in one visit.

Will I get arrears for the months the benefit was blocked?

Often, but rarely automatically. Once seeding is fixed, file a written grievance listing the missed months or refills, with your reference numbers. Savitri's Rs 900 above came only after that letter.

Can RTI restart my benefit?

No. RTI extracts the recorded status and the reason for failure. The restart comes from fixing the seeding or the mapper at the right office. Use RTI when offices give you contradictory verbal answers.
