Direct answer. PMMVY gives ₹5,000 cash for the first child and additional ₹6,000 if the second child is a girl, to pregnant + lactating mothers. Money is paid via DBT in 2–3 instalments tied to ANC visits + child immunisation. Apply at your Anganwadi Centre. Aadhaar + bank required. Free. Approved by Cabinet 2017, expanded under PMMVY 2.0 in 2022.

Quick Answer

  • ₹5,000 for first child (any gender). 2 instalments.
  • +₹6,000 if second child is a girl = ₹11,000 total. 1 instalment.
  • Apply at Anganwadi Centre in your area.
  • Helpline: 011-2330 2010 (PMMVY-CAS).

Who is eligible

  • Pregnant or lactating woman aged 19+ (younger if married).
  • Indian citizen.
  • First live birth OR second live birth IF the child is a girl.
  • No bar on income or category (Ujjwala-2.0-style universal).
  • Aadhaar mandatory.
  • Government employee mothers excluded (they get separate maternity benefit under CCS Rules).

Instalments + triggers

First child (₹5,000)

Instalment Amount Trigger
1st ₹3,000 Within 150 days of last menstrual period — register at Anganwadi + first ANC visit
2nd ₹2,000 After delivery + child's first round of immunisation (Penta-1, OPV-1, BCG)

Second child if girl (additional ₹6,000)

Single instalment ₹6,000 After registration of birth + first round of immunisation

Plus separately

  • Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY): ₹1,400 (rural BPL) / ₹1,000 (urban BPL) for institutional delivery. Stackable with PMMVY.
  • Many state schemes also stack (Mamta in Punjab, Mukhyamantri Matru-Shishu in MP, etc.).

Documents required

  1. Aadhaar of mother (mobile-linked)
  2. Aadhaar of husband (for verification)
  3. Bank passbook (mother's name, Aadhaar-seeded)
  4. MCP card (Mother & Child Protection) — issued at Anganwadi at first ANC
  5. LMP date (Last Menstrual Period) — usually estimated by ANM at first visit
  6. Self-declaration

How to apply

  1. Visit your nearest Anganwadi Centre (AWC). ASHA worker / ANM will guide.
  2. Form 1A — pregnancy registration + 1st ANC. Submit within 150 days of LMP.
  3. Anganwadi enters details in PMMVY-CAS (Common Application Software).
  4. DBT to bank account for 1st instalment within 30 days.
  5. Form 1B — after delivery, with delivery proof. 2nd instalment within 30 days.
  6. Form 1C — after first round of child immunisation. Receipt for ₹6,000 if second child is girl.
  7. Track at https://wcd.nic.in/pmmvy-cas (CAS portal).

Common mistakes

  • Late registration — Form 1A must be filed within 150 days of LMP. After that, eligibility lost.
  • MCP card not maintained — ANC visits must be recorded. ASHA worker maintains; verify weekly.
  • Aadhaar–bank mismatch — name spelling differences between Aadhaar and bank cause silent DBT failures. Fix at branch first.
  • Multiple Aadhaar numbers — flagged + cancelled. One canonical Aadhaar only.
  • Joint account in bank — must be mother's individual account for DBT.

FAQ

Can I get PMMVY for my third child?

No — PMMVY covers first child + second only if girl. Third + ineligible.

I had a stillbirth. Am I eligible?

1st instalment (post-registration) — yes (received during pregnancy). 2nd + 3rd — no, since they're triggered by live birth + child's first immunisation. Stillbirth doesn't reverse the 1st instalment.

Can I apply for PMMVY after delivery (didn't register during pregnancy)?

No — registration must be within 150 days of LMP. Post-delivery registration is too late.

I'm a domestic worker. Am I eligible?

Yes — PMMVY is universal (no income/category bar) for non-government-employee women. Register at Anganwadi.

Will my husband's job affect my PMMVY?

Only if husband is government employee receiving maternity benefit under CCS Rules — then excluded (to avoid double benefit).

I changed my address. Will my second instalment come?

Visit Anganwadi at new address. Update in PMMVY-CAS. DBT continues to your bank — bank account is the anchor, not the Anganwadi.

My MCP card is missing. What do I do?

ASHA worker reissues at Anganwadi. Free. Take Aadhaar.

Can I claim PMMVY + JSY + state schemes together?

Yes, all stackable. Best to enrol in all three at the first Anganwadi visit.
