Banking — Bank Fraud + RTI Command Desk (India 2026)

This is the banking command desk for India 2026. You will find 51+ citizen-tested guides spanning UPI and AEPS fraud recovery, UPI AutoPay subscription debits, NACH and ECS auto-debit disputes, credit-report errors, credit-card settlement and CIBIL risk, broker payout delays, debit-card and ATM disputes, failed NEFT / IMPS / RTGS transfers, loan-app harassment, RBI ombudsman escalation, KYC and dormant-account release, bank-locker access and locker compensation, and the apply-and-open workflows for every common product. Every guide is free, no login, no payment. The legal spine is the RBI Limited Liability Circular (2017, updated 2022) that resets your liability to zero if a fraud is reported within 3 working days, the RBI Master Direction on KYC (2016, amended 2024), the Banking Ombudsman / RBIOS Scheme 2021, and BNS 318 + IT Act 66D for criminal action.

Quick Answer — the 4-minute citizen drill if money leaves your account wrongly: (1) Dial 1930 or file at cybercrime.gov.in within 30 minutes so the receiving bank can freeze the account. (2) Email your home bank in writing within 3 working days — the RBI Limited Liability Circular resets your liability to zero for unauthorised electronic transactions. (3) Escalate to RBIOS at cms.rbi.org.in if the bank does not refund in 10 working days. (4) Pursue Section 138 NI Act or BNS 318 in parallel where applicable.

For ATM cash-not-dispensed, the RBI Master Direction on EBT requires auto-credit within T+5 working days; beyond that the bank owes ₹100 per day. Locker disputes fall under the RBI Safe Deposit Locker Revised Guidelines 2022 capping liability at 100× annual rent.

KYC, frozen account, account closure

Frozen-account release runs on the RBI Master Direction on KYC. Re-KYC by branch visit or video-KYC. Section 102 CrPC / now BNSS lets police freeze accounts only with a written order.

Open / apply — deposits, savings and pension

Banking RTI playbook

RTI to a public-sector bank is fully maintainable; private banks are partially covered under CIC v. Reserve Bank of India (2015).
