e-Shram helpline 2026: number, timings and complaint

Official e-Shram helpline numbers and complaint route

Last reviewed: 1 September 2026.

The e-Shram helpdesk can guide an unorganised worker through registration, UAN, profile-update and card-download problems, but a phone call does not guarantee that a backend record will be changed. Use the official numbers, keep the complaint reference, and move to the grievance portal when the first contact does not resolve the issue.

Quick answer: Call 14434 or 1800-889-6811 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm daily, including Sundays, according to the current e-Shram FAQ. For an unresolved UAN, registration or profile problem, use the official e-Shram grievance route and save its reference number. Registration and a UAN do not automatically enrol a worker in an insurance or pension scheme.

The official FAQ lists helpdesk hours as 9:00 am to 6:00 pm every day, including Sundays. Recheck the FAQ before relying on these hours during a holiday or service outage.

What the helpdesk can guide you on

  • new registration and Aadhaar authentication;
  • an existing UAN that is not being found;
  • profile fields that need updating;
  • UAN-card viewing or download;
  • mobile-number and login problems;
  • the correct grievance route when the portal fails;
  • which separate welfare scheme or department handles a benefit question.

The helpdesk may diagnose or register a problem, but some corrections require Aadhaar to be updated first, biometric authentication at a Common Service Centre, or action by another scheme's authority.

Before you call

Keep these ready without reading sensitive data aloud unless the official process requires it:

  1. UAN, if already generated;
  2. registered mobile number;
  3. name and date of birth as recorded in Aadhaar;
  4. screenshot or exact text of the error;
  5. date and time of the failed attempt;
  6. earlier grievance reference, if any.

Never share an Aadhaar OTP, bank OTP, password or UPI PIN with a caller. Use the number displayed on the official e-Shram website rather than a number from an advertisement or unsolicited message.

Aadhaar or mobile-number problems

Online self-registration normally relies on Aadhaar authentication. A worker whose mobile number is not linked with Aadhaar can use the assisted biometric route available through a Common Service Centre or State Seva Kendra, as described in the official FAQ.

If the underlying name, date of birth, gender or mobile record in Aadhaar is wrong, use the current authorised UIDAI update route. UIDAI’s app and centre options can change: its current guidance lists mobile-number update through the Aadhaar app in specified authentication scenarios, while a person without access to the old registered number may need an authorised centre. After the Aadhaar record is corrected, retry e-Shram or ask the helpdesk which refresh step is required.

For the complete enrolment flow, see how to register and download an e-Shram card.

e-Shram is not automatic insurance or pension

e-Shram creates the National Database of Unorganised Workers and assigns a Universal Account Number. Registration does not, by itself, prove enrolment in PMSBY, PMJJBY, PM-SYM or another benefit scheme.

For an insurance claim, first identify the actual policy, enrolling bank and scheme. See the separate PMSBY and PMJJBY guide. Pension questions may belong to the scheme and portal under which the worker separately enrolled.

Escalate an unresolved problem

  1. Ask the helpdesk for a complaint or interaction reference.
  2. Take a screenshot of the error and note the time of the attempt.
  3. File a written grievance through the official e-Shram grievance route.
  4. State the UAN in masked form, the exact problem, the action requested and the earlier reference.
  5. Save the acknowledgement and every reply.

Do not file repeated grievances on the same day unless the portal directs you to. Duplicate records can make the trail harder to follow.

When RTI is useful

RTI is for obtaining existing records held by a public authority; it is not a shortcut to create a UAN, edit Aadhaar or approve a benefit. If a properly filed grievance remains unexplained, a focused RTI can ask the Ministry of Labour and Employment for:

  • the date and recorded status of the grievance;
  • the office to which it was forwarded;
  • the action-taken note and recorded closure reason;
  • the applicable instruction for the specific correction requested;
  • a copy of the record showing whether the correction was processed.

Quote the grievance number and date. Avoid asking the PIO to solve a technical problem or provide an opinion. Use the RTI Act guide and the RTI-portal directory to identify the correct authority.

Frequently asked questions

What is the e-Shram helpline number?

The official helpdesk numbers are 14434 and 1800-889-6811. Confirm them on e-Shram before calling because copied numbers can become stale or fraudulent.

What are the e-Shram helpdesk timings?

The current official FAQ states 9:00 am to 6:00 pm daily, including Sundays.

Is e-Shram registration free?

The official FAQ says registration is free. Do not pay someone who claims a fee is required to activate a UAN or release a benefit.

Can I register if my mobile is not linked with Aadhaar?

The official FAQ provides an assisted biometric-registration route through a Common Service Centre or State Seva Kendra. Use the current portal instructions for the nearest available centre.

Can I change my Aadhaar mobile number through an app?

UIDAI’s current Aadhaar-app guidance allows mobile update in specified authentication scenarios. If the old registered number is unavailable or no number was registered, the guidance directs the resident to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorised enrolment and update centre. Check the current UIDAI route before retrying e-Shram.

Does an e-Shram card include automatic accident insurance?

No. An e-Shram UAN does not by itself prove separate enrolment in PMSBY or any other insurance scheme. Check the policy and enrolling bank.

Where do I complain if the helpline does not resolve the issue?

Use the official e-Shram grievance portal, describe the exact problem and preserve the acknowledgement and response.

Will an RTI application correct my UAN?

No. RTI can obtain existing records about a grievance or correction request from a public authority. The e-Shram or Aadhaar authority must perform the actual correction through its service process.
