RTI fee in Telangana — 2026 schedule and TGIC portal
Quick Reply: An RTI application in Telangana costs ₹10, and copies are ₹2 per page after the PIO intimates you. File online at rti.telangana.gov.in, which handles applications, first appeals and second appeals in one place. The Telangana Information Commission sits at Samachara Hakku Bhavan, Hyderabad, and can be reached on 040-24740240.
Last reviewed: 26 August 2026. Fees verified against the TG RTI Online portal guidelines and the commission's own contact page.
What you pay
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| RTI application fee | ₹10 |
| Photocopy, A4 or A3 size | ₹2 per page |
| Priced printed document | The fixed printed price |
| Inspection of records | First hour free, then ₹5 per hour or part |
| Information on diskette or floppy | ₹50 |
| First appeal under §19(1) | No fee |
| Second appeal to TGIC under §19(3) | No fee |
The portal's application guidelines state the fee is “as prescribed in the RTI Rules, 2012” — the ₹10 application fee — payable by internet banking, Master or Visa credit and debit card, or RuPay card. Below Poverty Line applicants pay nothing, provided the BPL certificate issued by the competent government is attached.
File online — the official route
TG RTI Online is the state's official filing system. From the portal's own menus:
- RTI Request — new application and first appeal
- Second Appeal — straight to the commission
- Application Status — track your RTI and first appeal
- RTI Complaint and Information U/S 4(1)(b) disclosures
- RTI Mobile Apps — the same services on your phone
One practical trap the portal itself warns about: after paying, if you do not immediately receive a registration number, wait 24 to 48 working hours for reconciliation. Do not pay again. If the number still does not arrive, email the transaction details to [email protected] — that address is printed in the portal's own guidelines.
The commission — verified contacts
The Telangana Information Commission was constituted on 13 September 2017 and Dr. G. Chandrashekar Reddy took charge as State Chief Information Commissioner on 9 May 2025.

- Website: tgic.telangana.gov.in
Note that the older address tsic.gov.in no longer resolves — the commission's site now lives at tgic.telangana.gov.in, with online filing on rti.telangana.gov.in.
When to file a second appeal
- No reply in 30 days, or a refusal you dispute — first appeal to the officer senior to the PIO, within 30 days of the refusal.
- First appeal ignored — second appeal to TGIC within 90 days of the first-appeal decision, or of the date it should have arrived.
- The portal files it electronically and lists it for hearing. TGIC publishes its own cause lists and orders online.
- For a public authority with no PIO appointed, or an office that refuses to accept the application, the portal's RTI Complaint section carries a §18 complaint straight to the commission — no fee, and no 90-day bar.
If the PIO demands more
Ask for the extra demand in writing with the arithmetic under §7(3). Anything beyond ₹2 per page plus actual postal charges is challengeable in the first appeal — which costs nothing. Keep the ₹10 payment receipt and registration number handy; the appeal needs both.
Real example. Kashvi Pathak of Warangal filed for the sanction file of a road drain outside her college. The PIO's office asked her to “come and discuss the fee”. She quoted the schedule, paid ₹10 online, got 11 pages at ₹22, and the work order copy exposed that the sanction was two years old and unused.
