RTI fee FAQs

Do BPL applicants pay RTI application fees?

No. Below Poverty Line applicants are exempt from RTI fees under Section 7(5), but they should attach proof of BPL status with the application.

Is the copying fee paid with the RTI application?

Usually no. The application fee is paid at filing. Copying or record charges are paid later only if the PIO sends an additional-fee intimation under Section 7(3).

Are RTI fees the same in every Indian state?

No. Central Government RTI applications and State Government RTI applications can follow different rules for application fees, copy charges, inspection charges, and payment methods.
