Direct answer. Udyam registration is FREE, paperless, lifetime-valid. Only needs Aadhaar + PAN (and GSTIN if applicable). No supporting documents. Auto-classification based on PAN + GST + ITR data sync. Apply at udyamregistration.gov.in.

Mandatory documents

  • Aadhaar of authorised signatory — Mandatory; Proprietor (sole proprietorship), Partner (firm), Director (company)
  • Aadhaar-linked mobile number — For OTP-based registration
  • PAN of business / individual — Auto-fetches name, business details from PAN database
  • GSTIN (if turnover > Rs. 40 lakh / Rs. 20 lakh services) — Auto-fetches registered turnover
  • Bank account details — For business correspondence; not stored on Udyam

Optional / situational documents

  • Trade licence / Shop & Establishment licence — Not required for registration; useful for tender bids
  • Investment proofs — Not required; auto-fetched from PAN data
  • NIC code (occupation classification) — Choose during registration; can be modified
  • Disability certificate — For PwD entrepreneur priority schemes

Specifications + key rules

  • FREE + lifetime validity — no renewal, no fees ever. Old EM-II / Udyog Aadhaar got auto-migrated.
  • Auto-classification based on annual turnover and investment from PAN + GST + ITR sync.
  • Classification limits (2026): Micro: Investment ≤ Rs. 1 cr + Turnover ≤ Rs. 5 cr · Small: ≤ Rs. 10 cr + ≤ Rs. 50 cr · Medium: ≤ Rs. 50 cr + ≤ Rs. 250 cr.
  • MSME benefits unlocked: priority sector lending, govt tender preference (25% set-aside), TReDS access, late-payment dispute resolution under MSMED Act §15-23.
  • One Udyam per Aadhaar — only one allowed per individual.
  • Aadhaar-PAN linkage mandatory since 2023.
