Pension Status Check 2026 — EPS, EPFO & Jeevan Pramaan
Quick answer. Where you check depends on which pension you get:
- EPS-95 / EPFO pension (private-sector employees) — use the EPFO Pension Payment Enquiry at mis.epfindia.gov.in → Pension Payment Enquiry with your PPO number. Member dues and passbook are at passbook.epfindia.gov.in.
- Life certificate (any pensioner) — submit and track the Digital Life Certificate at jeevanpramaan.gov.in. A pension stops if the annual life certificate is not submitted.
- State social pension (old age, widow, disability) under NSAP — check your state social welfare portal or nsap.nic.in.
If you are short on time: find your pension type below, then use that portal. Never share your PPO, Aadhaar OTP or bank OTP with anyone who calls offering to “release” your pension.

Quick summary (2026)
- EPS-95 pension: EPFO Pension Payment Enquiry by PPO number.
- Life certificate: Jeevan Pramaan Digital Life Certificate, submitted yearly.
- State pensions: NSAP / state social welfare portal.
- Min EPS-95 pension: Rs 1,000 per month (current floor).
- Safety: no official ever needs your OTP or PPO over a phone call.
Which pension do you have
- EPS-95 — the monthly pension run by EPFO for organised private-sector employees who contributed to the Employees' Pension Scheme. Identified by a PPO (Pension Payment Order) number.
- State social pension — old age, widow or disability pension under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) plus state top-ups, paid by the state social welfare department.
- Central / state government service pension — for retired government employees, handled through their pension authority and bank.
The portal differs for each. Identify yours first.
How to check EPS-95 / EPFO pension status
- Enter your PPO number and the requested office details.
- The page shows your pension payment details and recent credits.
To check contributions and service before pension starts:
- Log in to the EPFO member portal and open your passbook at passbook.epfindia.gov.in using your UAN.
- Check that service and wages are correctly recorded — errors here delay pension later.
If you do not know your PPO number, ask the EPFO regional office or your bank, which records it against your pension account.
Digital Life Certificate (Jeevan Pramaan)
Every pensioner must submit a life certificate once a year so the pension continues. The digital route:
- Open jeevanpramaan.gov.in and follow the steps to generate a Digital Life Certificate (DLC) using Aadhaar-based biometric or face authentication.
- After a successful submission, a Jeevan Pramaan ID is generated and stored in the life-certificate repository for your pension authority.
- You can also submit through a bank, a Common Service Centre, or a doorstep service from India Post if you cannot travel.
If your pension stopped suddenly, the most common cause is a missed or failed life certificate. Submit a fresh DLC first.
State social pensions (NSAP)
Old age, widow and disability pensions are paid by your state social welfare department, often with central support under NSAP.
- Check your state social welfare / pension portal for beneficiary status by application or Aadhaar number.
- The NSAP dashboard at nsap.nic.in holds programme information and state links.
- For application steps, see how to apply for old age pension and widow pension application.
Central government pensioners
Retired central government employees can track pension and PPO details through the central pension systems and their disbursing bank. Keep your PPO number, bank account and annual life certificate current. State government pensioners use their state treasury / pension portal.
If your pension is not credited
- Check the life certificate first — a lapsed DLC is the top cause of a stopped pension.
- Confirm bank details — a closed or KYC-frozen account blocks credit.
- Raise a grievance with EPFO (for EPS) or the state social welfare office (for social pensions) and keep the reference number.
- Escalate with RTI if the pension stays unpaid without a clear reason.
RTI angle for pension delays
An RTI to the pension authority often reveals exactly why a pension is stuck and forces a timeline.
- If a pension is not credited, see what to do when pension is not credited and use the RTI format for pension not credited.
- For EPS-95 higher pension queries, see RTI for EPS-95 higher pension.
- For a widow pension that stopped, see RTI for widow pension not credited.
- Draft any of these with the RTI Drafter. The PIO must reply within 30 days under §7(1).
Safety warnings
- No EPFO or government official asks for your PPO, Aadhaar OTP or bank OTP by phone or WhatsApp.
- Ignore calls claiming your “pension is blocked, pay a fee to release it” — these are scams.
- Submit the life certificate only through the official Jeevan Pramaan route, your bank, a CSC or India Post.
- Never pay an agent to “increase” your pension; eligibility is fixed by rules.
Frequently asked questions
What is a PPO number and where do I find it?
PPO stands for Pension Payment Order. It is the unique number for your pension account. It appears on your pension sanction papers and is recorded by your disbursing bank and the EPFO regional office. You need it for the EPFO Pension Payment Enquiry.
My pension suddenly stopped. What is the first thing to check?
Check your annual life certificate. A missed or failed Jeevan Pramaan Digital Life Certificate is the most common reason a pension stops. Submit a fresh DLC, then confirm your bank account is active and KYC-compliant.
What is the minimum EPS-95 pension?
The current minimum monthly pension under EPS-95 is Rs 1,000. Your actual pension depends on your pensionable service and pensionable salary. EPS-95 pensioner groups have long demanded a higher floor; check official EPFO notifications for any change.
How often must I submit a life certificate?
Once a year. Many pensioners submit in November, but you can submit in your birth/anniversary month if your pension authority allows it. Submit through Jeevan Pramaan, a bank, a Common Service Centre or India Post doorstep service.
Where do I check an old age or widow pension?
These are state social pensions. Check your state social welfare / pension portal by application or Aadhaar number. The NSAP site at nsap.nic.in holds programme information and links. For credit problems, raise a state grievance and then an RTI.
