1. Register on scholarships.gov.in — Mobile + OTP. Save Application ID — used for renewal next year too.
2. Choose scholarship scheme — Filter by category (SC/ST/OBC/Minority/Disabled), level (Pre/Post-Matric/UG/PG), and state.
3. Fill application form — Personal + Aadhaar + caste cert no + income cert no + bank account (IFSC + Aadhaar-linked).
4. Upload supporting docs — Caste cert, income cert, previous mark sheet, fee receipt, current admission proof, Aadhaar.
5. Submit + verify by institution — Institution Verifier (IV) at your school/college approves. Then DNO (District Nodal Officer) verifies.
6. State + Central approval — State Nodal + Ministry approval. Multi-stage workflow visible on portal.
7. DBT credit — Approved amount credited to Aadhaar-linked account in 60-90 days post-final approval.
8. Renewal each year — Fresh application each academic year + Pass certificate of previous year. Use same Application ID.

• Offline: Cyber cafés (you fill yourself; pay Rs 25-50 for printing). Schools/colleges have Verifier role only.
• Fee: Free at every stage. Beware agents charging Rs 500–2000.
• Timeline: Application processing: 60-180 days · DBT credit: 30 days post-approval

• Aadhaar not linked to bank — DBT fails. Visit bank with Aadhaar to link via NPCI mapper.
• Caste cert / income cert not uploaded properly — must be PDF, <500KB, and in correct field. Common rejection reason.
• Institution Verifier delays — file RTI to Principal + DNO. NSP grievance portal also active.
• Marks below cut-off (50%) — some schemes have 60% cut-off (Top Class, Central Sector Scheme). Check carefully before applying.

Most “delays” or “rejections” clear within 7-15 days of an RTI being filed. Use this 5-question template:

1. Status of my application no. _____ dated _____ as on date.
2. The name + designation of the dealing officer assigned to my file.
3. The reasons for delay beyond the statutory timeline.
4. Copy of any noting / movement of my file in the past 30 days.
5. The likely date of issuance of my certificate / approval.
