Real story from a citizen

What we hear from RTI Wiki users: Ramappa, a 67-year-old farmer in Karnataka, hadn't received the Aug 2024 installment. He filed an RTI under §6 to the District Agriculture Officer asking (a) reason for missed installment, (b) eKYC status, © land-record linkage status, (d) officer to contact for rectification. Reply in 19 days flagged that his eKYC had expired (some states require annual re-verification). He completed face-auth on the PM-KISAN app in 5 minutes; missed installment + Dec 2024 installment both released together within 21 days.

7 reasons your status may be stuck

  • eKYC not completed — single biggest reason for stopped payments. Fix: do face-auth on PM-KISAN app (free, instant).
  • Income tax filer — automatic disqualification. Anyone who paid IT in any of last 2 AYs is excluded.
  • Pension > Rs. 10,000/month — disqualifies. Govt pensioners barred.
  • Constitutional post-holders — MPs, MLAs, ex-Ministers, judges barred.
  • Professional registration — doctors, engineers, CAs, lawyers, architects in active practice barred (Operational Guidelines).
  • Land record not seeded — Patwari hasn't uploaded your khasra/khatauni. Fix: physical visit + RTI if no action.
  • Aadhaar not linked to bank account — DBT fails. Fix: visit bank with Aadhaar.
  • Account dormant for 1+ year — bank account inactive. Fix: deposit Rs. 100, transactions revive.
  • Family land split — if your family land has been divided amongst heirs but record not updated, only one is eligible.

Pro tips most don't know

  • Face-auth eKYC via PM-KISAN mobile app is the FASTEST method — 30 seconds, free, no biometric machine needed.
  • Aadhaar-based bank account is automatically detected — you don't need a separate seeding process if Aadhaar is bank-linked.
  • Status of Self-Registered Farmers has the precise rejection reason — most users skip this section.
  • Karnataka, AP, Telangana, Odisha add a state top-up to PM-KISAN (Rs. 4,000-12,000 extra/year). Check state-specific portals.
  • If you're a tenant farmer (not landowner), you're NOT eligible for PM-KISAN. Some states (Andhra) have separate “Rythu Bharosa” for tenant farmers.

3 installments of Rs. 2,000 each per year (every 4 months — typically Apr-Jul, Aug-Nov, Dec-Mar).

Yes — there's no minimum landholding. The earlier 2-hectare cap was removed in May 2019.

What if my land is in joint family?

Each landholder family is treated as one unit. Only one nomination per family.

I missed face-auth deadline. Can I still get back-installments?

Yes — once eKYC is done, missed installments release in 30-60 days as arrears.

How is PM-KISAN different from PM-KISAN Maandhan?

PM-KISAN = Rs. 6,000/year cash transfer (current). Maandhan = pension scheme (Rs. 3,000/month after age 60, contributory).
