NEET-UG 2026 Paper Leak: Re-test and RTI Rights
Updated 12 May 2026. The Centre has cancelled NEET-UG 2026 held on 3 May 2026 after the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) traced a handwritten “guess paper” with 135 questions matching the actual paper — including all 90 Biology and all 45 Chemistry questions. The National Testing Agency (NTA) received the malpractice inputs on 7 May 2026, escalated to central agencies on 8 May 2026, and confirmed the cancellation through a public notice on 12 May 2026. The matter has been referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a comprehensive probe. Over 22.79 lakh candidates had registered, with the attempt held across 5,400+ centres, including 14 abroad. A re-test was later held on 21 June 2026 using the existing registration, candidature and centre choices, with no fresh fee charged. Quick Answer. A paper leak becomes legally serious when there is reliable proof that the exam process was compromised. Courts usually ask whether the irregularity was isolated or systemic, whether tainted and untainted candidates can be separated, and whether cancellation would be fair to all candidates.
NEET 2026 Fee Refund: Last Date 27 May
The NEET 2026 fee refund process has started. Candidates have to submit preferred bank account details on the official NEET UG 2026 registration portal by 27 May 2026, up to 11:50 PM. NTA has said the refund facility is for submission of bank details for processing the examination fee refund, and candidates should log in through the official NEET portal. Quick Reply: Go to neet.nta.nic.in, open the NEET UG 2026 candidate login or refund link, sign in with your application credentials, enter account holder name, IFSC code, account number, and bank name, optionally upload a cancelled cheque, review every digit, and submit before 27 May 2026, 11:50 PM. Pendency Is Not a Valid Reason to Deny RTI
Quick Reply: A PIO cannot deny an RTI just because a matter is “pending” — the CIC has ruled that pendency alone is not a valid ground under Section 8.
Direct Answer. The Central Information Commission has held that mere pendency of a decision, inquiry, or examination is not a valid ground to deny RTI disclosure. Unless the Public Information Officer specifically cites a Section 8 sub-clause AND shows how disclosure would prejudice the pending matter, the information must be released. Ratio: X v.
