VB-GRAMG Wage Rate 2026: Full State List From 1 July

VB-GRAMG daily wage rates by state from 1 July 2026 — RTI Wiki

Quick Reply: From 1 July 2026, every VB-GRAMG (formerly MGNREGA) worker must be paid at least ₹300 a day. The Ministry of Rural Development notified new state-wise rates on 30 June 2026 under Section 10 of the VB-G RAM G Act, 2025. The national average rose from ₹298.8 to ₹327.4. Find your state in the table below. If your muster shows less, use the recovery ladder in this guide.

Notification checked against the Ministry release and the PIB statement: 10 September 2026. RTI Wiki is an independent guide. Rates below are for unskilled manual work.

The four numbers that matter

That is 21 states, UTs and regions lifted to the ₹300 base, by design — the lowest notified wage under MGNREGA was ₹241, and the Ministry statement says the largest increases went to historically low-wage states. Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland gained the most, nearly 24.5 per cent.

What changed from MGNREGA

The Viksit Bharat — Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), VB-G RAM G Act, 2025 replaced the MGNREGA law from 1 July 2026. For your wage slip, three things changed:

  1. The rate: notified afresh under Section 10 of the new Act, combining annual indexation with a ₹300 interim base wage rate so that no notified wage falls below ₹300. The average increase is a little over 10 per cent, or ₹28.6 a day.
  2. The guarantee: 125 days of wage employment per rural household per year, up from 100 days under MGNREGA.
  3. The notification's authority: the 30 June 2026 notification supersedes the Ministry's earlier wage notification dated 26 February 2013.

If you started work under the old MGNREGA name and are still on a 2025-26 rate in the system, the July rate applies to work done from 1 July 2026. Check what your own wage should be

  1. Step 1 — Confirm your job card is active on the NREGA-era MIS or your state's new VB-GRAMG portal: MGNREGA job card status check.
  2. Step 2 — Read the muster roll entry for each day worked. The wage rate applied must match the notified rate for your state.
  3. Step 3 — Trace the payment: the Fund Transfer Order (FTO) date tells you when money left the system for your account.
  4. Step 4 — Compare credit in your bank with the muster calculation (days x notified rate).
  5. Step 5 — If any step shows less than ₹300 (or your state's rate), start the ladder below.

① Job card → ② Muster rate → ③ FTO date → ④ Bank credit → ⑤ Compare and act.

  1. Step 1 — Raise it with the Gram Panchayat or worksite mate in writing. Ask for the wage slip showing the rate applied.
  2. Step 2 — Complain to the Programme Officer at the block. Attach the muster details and your bank statement.
  3. Step 3 — Use the district grievance route or ombudsman: see MGNREGA ombudsman complaint for unpaid wages — the mechanism continues under the new Act.
  4. Step 4 — File an RTI application asking for records, not opinions: the notified rate applied to your muster, the FTO generation and signed dates, and the reason for any differential payment. Draft it free with the AI RTI Drafter, and see RTI for MGNREGA wages not paid for the working method.
  5. Step 5 — No reply in 30 days, or an evasive reply? File a first appeal with the First Appeal Builder. The complete escalation path is in The RTI Playbook.

For wages paid late rather than less, see RTI for MGNREGA wage delay and the state pages under MGNREGA wages, for example Bihar MGNREGA wages or Odisha MGNREGA wages.

Sample RTI application — wage rate applied

Please provide the following information under Section 6(1) of the RTI Act 2005, regarding job card number [number], household [name], Gram Panchayat [name], block [name], district [name]:

1. The notified daily wage rate applied to muster roll number [number] for work done from 1 July 2026, and the notification number and date under which it was applied. 2. The total days recorded against my household and the amount calculated, day-wise. 3. The date my wage FTO was generated, signed and sent to the bank, with the FTO number. 4. If any amount less than the notified rate was paid, the name, designation and order of the officer who authorised the differential. 5. The wages claimed, wages paid and wages pending for my Gram Panchayat for FY 2026-27.

A typical September 2026 case: Ramesh of Samastipur, Bihar, worked 14 days in August. His account credit worked out to less than ₹300 a day — the system was still applying his 2025-26 rate. The notified Bihar rate from 1 July 2026 is ₹300, so his muster for 14 days owed him ₹4,200. The gap per worker looks small; across a village of 60 workers it runs into thousands of rupees. One written complaint with the muster photocopy, quoting the 30 June 2026 notification, got the differential credited with the next week's FTO.

Frequently asked questions

Which state has the highest VB-GRAMG wage rate?

Haryana, at ₹409 a day. One wage region beats it: the Gnathang, Lachung and Lachen Gram Panchayats of Sikkim at ₹450. Then come Goa at ₹406 and Kerala at ₹401.

My state is not in the ₹300 list separately. What is my rate?

If your state is among the 21 listed in the bottom row — from Bihar and UP to West Bengal and most north-eastern states — your notified rate is ₹300 a day.

Are these rates for skilled work too?

No. The 30 June 2026 notification covers unskilled manual work, which is what the employment guarantee provides. Rates for skilled and semi-skilled work follow separate wage rules.

Will the rates change again next year?

The Ministry states the new methodology combines annual indexation with the ₹300 interim base wage rate, so rates are revisited under the Act's indexation cycle. Watch for a fresh Section 10 notification rather than news roundups.

I was paid the old rate for July work. Can I claim the difference?

Yes — the notified rate applies from 1 July 2026. Use the recovery ladder above: wage slip from the mate, complaint to the Programme Officer, then RTI for the FTO and muster records.

Does the ₹300 minimum mean 125 days x ₹300 guaranteed income?

No. The Act guarantees 125 days of employment per household per year when work is demanded. Income depends on days actually worked and your state's notified rate. If you applied for work and got none, the unemployment allowance route applies: claim the G RAM G unemployment allowance.

Is the scheme still called MGNREGA or NREGA?

The law is now the VB-G RAM G Act, 2025, and the old name is fading from portals and SMS. Job cards, muster rolls and the MIS continue. See the full transition guide for what carried over.

Where is the official notification?

The Ministry of Rural Development notification is dated 30 June 2026, effective 1 July 2026, issued under Section 10 of the VB-G RAM G Act 2025. The Ministry's public statement is on PIB: Government notifies revised wage rates under the VB-G RAM G Act, 2025.
