RTI Application Generator

RTI Generator — RTI Wiki

Quick Reply: A rejection-proof RTI application is a checklist, not a gift of drafting: correct PIO, the §6(1) invocation, the ₹10 fee line (or BPL exemption), 3–6 numbered and specific queries, and your postal address. The live drafter tools below assemble all of it in about a minute — and the checklist teaches you to audit any draft, theirs or ours.

The live tools

What a correct application must contain

1. **The right addressee** — the CPIO/SPIO of the office **holding the record** (not the minister, not "the Government"): department name, office, PIO by designation.
2. **The §6(1) invocation** — a plain request for information under the Right to Information Act, 2005.
3. **The fee line** — ₹10 (₹20 in Gujarat) by the accepted mode; **BPL applicants file free** on a certificate copy (§7(5)).
4. **3–6 numbered queries**, each pointing at a **record**: dated, numbered, named. "Certified copies of the file notings on…" beats "information about…" every time.
5. **Your name and full postal address** — the reply goes there; an email alone is not enough under the rules.
6. **Delivery proof** — portal registration number, or Speed Post POD with the delivery date: the 30-day clock runs from delivery.

The five rejection-traps the checklist kills

Trap Checklist answer
“Vague application” Queries name the document, date, file number
“Asked a question, not records” §6(2): no reasons owed — but ask for the notings, not opinions
“Wrong office” Decision-tree the authority first (central vs state); §6(3) transfer quoted if misrouted
“Third party” §11 is a procedure, not a refusal ground — pre-empt by asking for the notice copy
“No record” Ask for the index/register too — the index proves the record

FAQs

Is any generator legally required formatting?

No — the Act requires a written request, the fee and your address; no form is compulsory at the Centre. Generators just make it rejection-proof.

Can I pay the ₹10 online?

On rtionline.gov.in and several state portals (Karnataka takes UPI); postal filing uses IPO/DD/cash-against-receipt.

Draft made — where do I send it?

Central authorities: rtionline.gov.in. State authorities: the state portal or the PIO by post — the directory has the live status.

What if I need help picking queries?

The AI RTI Drafter builds queries from a plain-language description; Top 20 RTI questions shows what citizens commonly ask.

Last reviewed: 27 August 2026. The stale “expected 2026-Q2” promise retired; the page now documents the live drafter tools and the underlying checklist instead of an unreleased embed; broken description rebuilt.
