Aadhaar date-of-birth update limit exhausted? Use UIDAI's exception process

Quick answer: Aadhaar date of birth can ordinarily be updated only once. If a further correction is genuinely required, first submit a fresh DOB update at an Aadhaar Enrolment/Update Centre with the documents required by UIDAI's exception SOP. After that request is rejected as limit exceeded, call 1947 or file a UIDAI grievance and request Regional Office exception processing using the latest EID/SRN and supporting records. Approval is not automatic.
The order matters
Do not begin by emailing a general request without a fresh update transaction. UIDAI's current FAQ describes this sequence:
- Enrol for the DOB update at the nearest centre using a birth certificate and affidavit as required in the SOP.
- Allow the request to receive the “limit exceeded” status.
- Call 1947 or use UIDAI's official grievance channel and ask for exception processing through the concerned Regional Office.
- Provide the latest EID/SRN and attach the required documents.
- Preserve the SRN issued for tracking while the Regional Office conducts its enquiry.
If the DOB previously recorded in Aadhaar was based on a different birth certificate, UIDAI says the old certificate must be cancelled when a new birth certificate with a different date is obtained, and the cancelled certificate should be included as required by the SOP.

The exception process is not a way to choose a convenient age for employment, pension or school admission. UIDAI verifies the records and may seek further enquiry.
Submit and track safely
Use only a UIDAI centre listed through the official locator. At the centre, verify the demographic data on screen before confirming and collect the acknowledgement. After the rejection, use the grievance link on UIDAI's site, call 1947 or write to the official UIDAI contact shown on the current portal.
Keep the grievance SRN. Do not email a birth certificate, Aadhaar and affidavit to an address copied from a social-media post. UIDAI's current home page lists 1947 and its official help contact.
If the Regional Office asks for clarification

If a scholarship or other service is blocked, show the authority the pending acknowledgement and ask whether it accepts another lawful identity or DOB record. Do not claim an exception request is already approved.
Grievance and RTI
A UIDAI grievance is the operational route. A narrow RTI to the relevant UIDAI office may seek the recorded status, dates, deficiency note and the applicable SOP after ordinary follow-up fails. Do not ask the PIO to approve the update or disclose sensitive biometric information.
