RTI Application Form A — download + filling guide (2026)

There is no single statutory form for central RTIs — under §6 you can apply on plain paper. Most states have a “Form A” for state-RTI applications. Use this template (accepted nationwide):

What the form needs

  • Applicant name + father/spouse name
  • Complete address with PIN
  • Phone + email (optional but recommended)
  • BPL status (if applicable, with card number)
  • Specific information sought (numbered questions, one per point)
  • Period to which information relates (specify dates)
  • Form in which info needed (paper / digital / inspection)
  • Mode of fee payment (cash / DD / IPO / online)
  • Date + signature

Where to submit

Plain paper OR portal upload accepted by any PIO.

Fee

Rs 10 (central) / state-specific

Timeline

30 days statutory under §7(1).

Tips + common mistakes

  • No reason needs to be given for asking
  • Use plain English / Hindi / state language
  • Number your questions (1, 2, 3…)
  • Be specific — vague asks get vague answers

If submitted form is rejected / delayed — file an RTI

Forms get “lost”, “incomplete”, “wrong section” — RTI brings out the actual file noting and officer name, which usually resolves the issue within 15 days.
