How to file RTI in Tripura — online and postal (2026)

Tripura runs a compact, working RTI system: a functioning online portal, a Commission that publishes its decisions, and the standard ₹10 fee. The address above is the one the Commission publishes on its own contact page — older listings that point elsewhere in Agartala are stale.

1. Register (or not): the portal allows filing without mandatory registration, though an account helps you track
2. Fill the request: name, address, the public authority, and the information you want — specific, numbered, record-seeking
3. Pay ₹10 through the portal's payment gateway and submit; the fee date is your filing date
4. File the first appeal on the same portal if the PIO refuses, replies incompletely, or stays silent past 30 days — Section 19(1), to the department's First Appellate Authority
5. Track by application number and mobile OTP

One warning the portal itself carries: applications filed with wrong or incomplete payment are returned without refund of the fee — so check the payment screen before you submit.

Address the PIO of the public authority that holds the record — the department, the district office, the police station, the university — not a grievance cell. Enclose a ₹10 IPO or demand draft. Keep the dispatched envelope and the IPO counterfoil; in Tripura as everywhere, the postal receipt is your proof when a PIO claims non-receipt.
