Telangana High Court — Case Status and RTI
Reviewed on 25 August 2026 by Dr. Shrawan Kumar Pathak.
The High Court for the State of Telangana sits in Hyderabad and runs its case information on tshc.gov.in, with case status also on csis.tshc.gov.in and on the national eCourts services portal. You can check listing and orders free, order certified copies from the copying branch, and use RTI for the court's administrative records through the court's own RTI portal.
Quick Reply: For a Telangana High Court case, search tshc.gov.in or csis.tshc.gov.in by case number, party name or CNR to see listing and orders — free. Certified copies come from the court's copying branch. For administrative records — vacancies, infrastructure, listing policy — file RTI at rti.tshc.gov.in. Replies are due in 30 days.
The court at a glance
- Full name — High Court for the State of Telangana, seat at Hyderabad.
- Started — 1 January 2019, when the common High Court that had served both states after bifurcation was split under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
- Case status — tshc.gov.in and csis.tshc.gov.in.
- CNR search across High Courts — hcservices.ecourts.gov.in.
- RTI portal — rti.tshc.gov.in.
Check case status — 5 steps
- Collect what you have: case number, party name, advocate name or the CNR. CNR stands for Case Number Record — a 16-character identity the eCourts system gives every case. It finds a case in seconds.
- Open csis.tshc.gov.in or the case-status link on tshc.gov.in.
- Enter the case number with year, or paste the CNR.
- Read the screen: present stage, next hearing date, bench and the orders passed so far.
- Download or print any order shown. If an order you need is not online, order a certified copy — next section.
If your matter is still at the trial court or district court rather than the High Court, the general method is the same and is explained in the eCourts case status guide.
Get a certified copy of an order
- Apply at the copying branch of the High Court — in person or by post, as the court's rules allow.
- Give the case number, date of the order and the pages you need.
- Pay the copying fee fixed by the court's rules — the current rate is displayed by the copying branch and on the court notice board.
- Copies normally arrive within days; track the application if they do not.
Copies of orders and case files follow the court's own procedure and fees — that is the normal route for anything a case has produced. RTI is the tool for the court's other side: administration.
RTI at a High Court — what works and what does not
A High Court is a public authority under the Right to Information Act, 2005. The Supreme Court's five-judge bench put the point beyond doubt in CPIO, Supreme Court of India v. Subhash Chandra Agarwal (13 November 2019), holding that even the office of the Chief Justice of India is a public authority — High Courts sit squarely inside the Act. In practice the records split in two:
- Judicial side — case files, pleadings, orders and judgments. These flow through court procedure and the copying branch, not RTI.
- Administrative side — staff vacancies, infrastructure spending, listing policy, recruitment, court governance. These are disclosable through RTI to the court's Central Public Information Officer.
Telangana High Court runs rti.tshc.gov.in for RTI applications. If a reply does not arrive in 30 days under Section 7(1), treat it as refusal and file a first appeal under Section 19(1) to the first appellate authority of the court.
Five RTI questions that move a stuck court file
1. Status of my case no. _____ as on date. 2. Reasons for delay or non-listing in the past 30 days. 3. Number of similar cases pending and disposed of in the past 12 months. 4. Procedure to seek certified copy and inspection of my file. 5. Name and designation of the CPIO and the first appellate authority.
The full drafting method, with the appeal ladder after day 30, is in RTI for a delayed court case — and the AI RTI Drafter produces the finished application in about a minute.
Common problems
- Case not found on the portal — check the year format and try the CNR on hcservices.ecourts.gov.in; fresh filings take a few days to appear.
- Listed without notice to you — ask your advocate; the listing record itself is on the portal.
- Order not uploaded — order a certified copy from the copying branch instead of waiting.
- Adjourned again and again — the hearing history on the portal is the record; take it to your advocate.
- Bench changed mid-case — the portal shows the new bench with the next date; nothing needs to be refiled.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the CNR number of a Telangana High Court case?
Search csis.tshc.gov.in by case number, party name or advocate name. The result screen shows the 16-character CNR. Keep it — it works on every eCourts service nationwide.
Is the Telangana High Court case status free?
Yes. Searching case status, viewing hearing dates and downloading orders shown online on tshc.gov.in and csis.tshc.gov.in costs nothing. Only certified copies carry a court fee.
Can I file RTI online with the Telangana High Court?
Yes — the court runs rti.tshc.gov.in for RTI applications. Paper applications to the CPIO at the High Court, Hyderabad also work.
Can I get the case file itself under RTI?
No. Case files, pleadings and judgments are judicial records — get them through the copying branch. RTI covers the court's administrative records such as vacancies, spending and listing policy.
Who is the CPIO of the Telangana High Court?
The court designates its Central Public Information Officer on the administrative side. The current designation and contact details are published on the court website and its RTI portal — rti.tshc.gov.in.
What is csis.tshc.gov.in?
It is the court's Case Status Information System — the quickest way to check a Telangana High Court case by number, party or CNR.
How long does an RTI reply from the High Court take?
Thirty days under Section 7(1) of the RTI Act — the same deadline as every public authority. If day 30 passes silently, file the first appeal under Section 19(1).
The court was formed in 2019 — which High Court handled my older case?
Cases from the composite Hyderabad High Court era were shared between the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana High Courts when the courts split on 1 January 2019. Search the CNR on hcservices.ecourts.gov.in — it points to whichever court now holds the case.
