Step-by-step
- Open your state police or CCTNS-linked citizen portal and choose FIR search, FIR download or case status.
- Enter FIR number, police station, district, year and complainant or accused details only where required.
- Download the available public copy and save the date of download.
- If the FIR is not visible, contact the police station with diary number or complaint acknowledgement.
- For non-upload or refusal, ask for status, reason and copy process in writing.

Red flags and cautions
- Sexual offences, juvenile matters and other sensitive FIRs may not be public.
- Do not upload FIR copies containing personal data to public sites.
- Use certified copies for court or insurance work.
If the matter is stuck
- Raise a written complaint on the official portal, app, helpdesk, school, office, bank, distributor or RTO route that controls the record.
- Save the ticket number, date and reply.
- Ask for a written reason if the status is delayed, rejected, hidden or inconsistent.
- Where a public authority holds the record, RTI can ask for file status, action taken, reasons recorded, officer name/designation and copies of non-exempt records.
