Ration card status check NFSA state
There is no single national page to check ration card status in India. Each state runs its own Food and Civil Supplies portal. Start from the NFSA directory, open your state site, then check the Fair Price Shop list or the acknowledgement number. Add a member on that same state site. RTI goes to the food department, not to a central chat-bot.

There is no national ration card status page
A ration card (राशन कार्ड) is issued by your state government under the National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA). The Department of Food and Public Distribution hosts information and a directory at nfsa.gov.in. Live application status and the family list live on the state food portal, not on a single India-wide tracker.
Two different questions get sold as “status”:
- Is my card valid, and is my family listed? Use the beneficiary / ration card list and drill down to your Fair Price Shop (FPS).
- Where is my new card or correction? Use Application Status / Track Application with the acknowledgement (reference) number from the receipt.
NFSA entitles eligible priority households to foodgrains at the central issue prices in the Act, commonly 5 kg per person per month. Antyodaya (AAY) households have a higher monthly quantity under the same law. Some states add extra grain or a zero retail price. Confirm the kg and the price your state actually issues. Do not treat a WhatsApp “35 kg free everywhere” message as the national rule.

How to check your ration card status
Step 1 - Open the NFSA state directory, then your state
Go to nfsa.gov.in → Ration Card details on State Portals. Click your state or UT. That is the reliable door. Bookmark the state food host it opens. Do not trust a random “ration card list 2026” blog that asks for a paid OTP.
Step 2 - Check the beneficiary / ration card list
On the state portal, find Ration Card List, Beneficiary, or RC Drilldown. Select district → block / town → gram panchayat / ward → Fair Price Shop. Search your card number or name in that FPS list. This confirms the card is on the system and shows linked members. If you picked the wrong FPS, the name will look “deleted” when it is only next door.
Step 3 - Track a new application or correction
Open Application Status, Track Application or Know Your Application. Enter the acknowledgement / reference number printed on the receipt or SMS. The screen shows where the file is: verification, approved, printed, sent back, or rejected. Labels differ by state. Read the remark on your state site.
Step 4 - Offline routes if the portal is down
Visit the FPS dealer with your card or acknowledgement. Visit the Taluk / Circle / District Supply Office. Call the helpdesk printed on that state portal. NFSA state pages commonly list 1967 as a PDS helpdesk, plus a state number. 1967 is a grievance and information line. It is not a national status website.

If a label is unclear, use the helpline printed on that portal. Do not invent a national SLA. Many states publish a service deadline under their Right to Service law, often counted after verification. Confirm the days on your state site.
Fair Price Shop ONORC and Mera Ration
The Fair Price Shop is the dealer point that actually issues grain. The public list is organised by FPS because that is how the state stock and the family mapping work. If your name is on a different shop after a move, portability or a transfer request is the issue, not a “lost” card.
Under One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC), an NFSA cardholder can draw entitled grain from a linked FPS in another place after Aadhaar authentication on the ePoS device. That needs the card to be Aadhaar-seeded. If portability fails, fix seeding on the state portal first.
The government's Mera Ration app (NIC) lets you check card details, nearby FPS and portability information. It does not replace the state portal for a new-card acknowledgement. Add a member or fix a stuck file
Name addition is a state food service, not an NFSA-directory click. Use the member-addition / correction form on your state portal, keep the new acknowledgement, and track it like any other application. The dedicated steps are on add a name to your ration card.
If the file is stuck or rejected:
- Re-check the flagged document. Address proof, Aadhaar mismatch, and a duplicate card are common defects.
- Visit the Taluk Supply / Circle / Block office with the acknowledgement number.
- Lodge a grievance on the state portal or on 1967 / the state helpdesk. Keep the complaint number.
- Then use RTI if the service deadline has passed and nobody will name the pending officer.
RTI to Food and Civil Supplies
The public authority is your Food and Civil Supplies / Consumer Affairs department at the district or state level, not NIC and not the FPS dealer as PIO. File under RTI Act 2005 s.6(1) to the PIO of the District Supply Office (or the authority your state names). The PIO must reply in 30 days under s.7(1). First appeal is s.19(1).
Ask for the movement register, the inspection report, and the reason for delay or deletion. Do not ask the PIO to “issue my ration card today”. That is an order, not information.

Sample RTI to the District Supply Office
Five points. Enclose the acknowledgement screenshot and the FPS list printout if the name is missing.
- 1. Current status of ration card / member-addition application [ACKNOWLEDGEMENT] dated [DATE] for FPS [CODE / NAME], as on the date of this reply.
- 2. Name, designation and sitting of the official with whom the file is pending, and from which date.
- 3. Copy of the field verification / inspector report, if any, and the date it was submitted.
- 4. If sanctioned: date of generation or print, and whether the family appears on the FPS beneficiary list.
- 5. If rejected, deleted or queried: copy of the speaking order or defect memo, and the documents still treated as deficient.
Safety warnings
- The official portal never asks you to pay a private agent to “approve” a card.
- Never share an Aadhaar OTP with a caller who claims to be Food and Civil Supplies.
- Open the state portal from the NFSA directory. Ignore WhatsApp “list” links.
- Adding a fake member or hiding income on a ration card is an offence under NFSA.

Is there one national website to check ration card status?
No. Ration cards are issued by states. Status lives on each state Food and Civil Supplies portal. Open yours from the NFSA state directory. nfsa.gov.in holds information and the directory. It does not hold live application status for every state.
How do I check ration card status on the NFSA state portal?
Pick your state from the directory, then either drill the beneficiary list to your FPS or enter the acknowledgement number on Track Application. Screens differ. The pattern is directory → state site → list or acknowledgement. That is the NFSA state flow.
How long does a new ration card take in 2026?
It depends on the state. Many states publish a deadline under their Right to Service / Public Service Guarantee Act, often counted after field verification. Read the timeline on your state portal. Beyond that deadline, file a grievance, then RTI.
My name is missing from the ration card list. What do I do?
Confirm you searched the correct FPS and district. If the name is genuinely missing, apply for name addition on the state portal and keep the acknowledgement. Track that new number like any other application.
Can I check status without the acknowledgement number?
For an existing card, yes. Use the beneficiary list by district and FPS. For a new application, most state portals need the acknowledgement number. If you lost it, visit the Taluk Supply / Circle office with ID and ask for it from the inward register.
What is the Mera Ration app for?
It is the government app for ONORC and related PDS checks: card details, nearby FPS, portability, and often eKYC. It does not replace your state portal for application status. Seed Aadhaar on the state site if the app says portability is off.
Who is the PIO if my ration card is stuck?
The PIO in Food and Civil Supplies at the district supply office (or the authority your state names), not the FPS dealer. File under s.6(1). Reply is due in 30 days under s.7(1). First appeal is s.19(1).
What is helpline 1967 for ration card status?
