UIDAI offers two routes for updating an existing Aadhaar: the self-service online portal (myAadhaar) and an in-person visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre. The route depends on what you want to change.

Key points:

• You need a registered mobile number to use the online route, because UIDAI sends an OTP to verify identity.
• Address updates online accept a valid Proof of Address document or an Address Validation Letter from UIDAI.
• DOB can be updated only once after a birth certificate is submitted as supporting proof, per the UIDAI Standard Operating Procedure for DOB Update. After that, no further changes are ordinarily accepted.
• Name changes are subject to a limit (verify current limit at myAadhaar before applying, as UIDAI has tightened this in recent years).
• Gender correction requires supporting documentation; verify current acceptable documents at uidai.gov.in.

UIDAI announced a free online document upload service to let residents improve the quality of supporting documents already on their Aadhaar record (name, address, DOB proofs). This service was extended from 14 June 2026 to 14 June 2027 by a UIDAI memo dated 13 May 2026.

• This covers only document upload (adding or replacing the scanned proof you submitted at the time of enrolment), not demographic field changes.
• The service is at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in under “Document Update.”
• Normal Rs 75 demographic fees apply if you also change a field value (for example, correcting a misspelled name alongside uploading a fresh document).

Note: Online demographic update fees are displayed at the payment step on myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in; confirm the exact online amount before paying.

UIDAI accepts documents from its official “List of Acceptable Documents for Aadhaar Enrolment and Update” (available on uidai.gov.in). Common examples:

Proof of Name / Proof of Identity:

• PAN card, passport, voter ID, driving licence, bank passbook (with photo), government employee ID

Proof of Address:

• Utility bill (not older than 3 months), bank statement, ration card, passport, driving licence, property tax receipt

Proof of Date of Birth:

• Birth certificate (primary and preferred document per SOP), SSLC/Class 10 marksheet, passport

For Name / Gender Correction:

• Relevant gazette notification or certificate from a competent authority (verify the current acceptable list on uidai.gov.in)

Documents submitted online must be:

• Clear, colour scans of originals
• In the name of the Aadhaar holder
• Matching the details entered in the update form exactly

1. Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and click “Update Demographics Data and Check Status.”
2. Log in with your 12-digit Aadhaar number. An OTP is sent to your registered mobile number.
3. Select the field you wish to update (name, address, DOB, or gender).
4. Enter the corrected value in English (it will be auto-transliterated into your selected regional language).
5. Upload a scanned copy of the supporting document from the acceptable list.
6. Review and submit. Pay the applicable fee online.
7. Note the Update Request Number (URN) shown on the acknowledgement screen. Keep this safe for tracking.
8. Track progress at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in under “Check Aadhaar Update Status.” Processing typically takes 30 to 90 days.

If your mobile number is not registered with Aadhaar, you cannot use the online route. Visit a centre instead.

1. Locate your nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre via the Bhuvan Aadhaar portal (linked on uidai.gov.in). Some centres require an appointment; book online.
2. Download and fill the Aadhaar Enrolment / Correction Form (available on uidai.gov.in under “Enrolment and Update Forms”).
3. Carry the completed form, your Aadhaar card (original or e-Aadhaar printout), and self-attested copies of supporting documents. Bring originals for verification.
4. The operator records your correction, captures any required biometrics, and collects the fee (Rs 75 for demographics, Rs 125 for biometrics).
5. You receive a paper acknowledgement slip with your URN.
6. Track the update at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in using the URN.

After correcting your Aadhaar, re-verify your linked accounts:

• Check that your bank account seeding status reflects the updated name using the Aadhaar bank seeding status check.

Yes. Name corrections can be done online at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in if your mobile number is registered with Aadhaar. Upload a valid Proof of Identity (such as a PAN card or passport). Name changes are subject to a frequency limit set by UIDAI; check the current limit on the portal before applying.
