Andhra Pradesh applies the Andhra Pradesh Right to Information Rules, 2005 (with subsequent amendments) for all state public authorities. The fee is ₹10 per application (BPL: zero). Reply deadline: 30 days under §7(1) of the central RTI Act. Online filing is via the rtionline.ap.gov.in portal (live since 2019). Postal Speed Post (AD) remains the universal fallback.

Common mistakes filing in AP

  • Sending to old Amaravati AP SIC address - the SIC moved to Visakhapatnam in 2024. Always check the official site for the current address.
  • Telangana confusion - AP and Telangana are separate states since 2014. Telangana has its own SIC at tgic.telangana.gov.in. RTI for Hyderabad goes to Telangana, not AP.
  • Court-fee stamp not accepted in some districts - prefer IPO or online payment for AP RTIs.

As per Anjali Bhardwaj v. UoI (2019) monitoring, the AP SIC has had moderate vacancy issues since the bifurcation. Appointments resumed in late 2024. Average disposal time for a second appeal: 8-14 months.
