RTI Application for IRCTC Refund Delay: Sample 2026 - RTI Wiki

Direct answer. If a railway-ticket refund booked through IRCTC has not been credited within the prescribed time-frame after cancellation or TDR filing, file a free RTI to the IRCTC PIO and, where appropriate, the relevant zonal railway PIO, asking for the refund status, processing note and reasons. The PIO must reply in 30 days.

Drafting notes. This is a sample application. Customise each item before filing. See Guide for applicants for procedure, fee, and appeal path. After 14 November 2025, requests seeking information about a named individual engage Section 8(1)(j) as amended by Section 44(3) of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. See the practitioner note for the test the Public Information Officer must apply.

When to use this RTI

  • Your e-ticket refund has not credited after IRCTC cancellation
  • Your TDR has been filed but no decision in 60 days
  • The refund is shown 'in process' indefinitely on the IRCTC dashboard
  • You want the zonal railway response on the TDR

When NOT to use this RTI

  • If the booking was through a third-party agent (chase the agent first; IRCTC may direct you to the agent's records)
  • If you have not filed cancellation or TDR within the time-window prescribed
  • If you want the PIO to grant refund through RTI (RTI gives records, not refund)
