Module 10 — Section 20 — Penalties
Section 20 is the penalty regime — Rs 250 per day of delay up to a ceiling of Rs 25,000, recovered personally from the PIO. Triggers: refusing to receive an RTI, non-response within the Section 7(1) window, malafide denial, destruction of records, or knowingly supplying incorrect information. The PIO must be given a reasonable opportunity of being heard before penalty is imposed.
