This guide tells you exactly what's tested, what to practise, and how to pass on the first or second attempt without going through "agents".

+Under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, **§3** makes it an offence to drive any motor vehicle without a valid licence. **§7** governs the Learner's Licence; **§8** governs the regular DL; **§9** the test. The minimum ages are:
+  * **16 years** — geared two-wheeler with engine capacity **under 50cc** (very few models qualify post-BS-VI)

+The test typically has **three parts** for LMV:
+  - **Figure-of-8** (forward and reverse) — controls clutch and steering
+  - **Parallel parking** between cones — judgement of space

+For two-wheeler:

+**RTI works here when:** your slot has not been allotted **more than 60 days** after payment, you've failed the driving test multiple times and want the **inspector's notes / reasons in writing**, the RTO refuses to register your application without a reason, or your file has been pending after a passed test for **more than 30 days**.
+**RTI does NOT directly help when:** you have not yet practised enough and just lost the test on merit (RTI cannot make the inspector pass you), or you don't meet the age criteria (RTI won't waive the law).

+**Q. Can I take the LL test in my regional language?**\\
+Yes. Sarathi supports Hindi, English, and most state languages (Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Malayalam, Odia). Toggle at the start of the test.
+**Q. I'm 17 — can I get an LL for a geared bike?**\\
+Only for non-geared two-wheelers (gearless scooters under 50cc) at age 16, with parental consent on Form 2A. Geared two-wheeler = age 18 minimum.
+**Q. Do I need to attend a driving school?**\\
+For private LMV/two-wheeler — no, optional. For **transport** classes (HMV, HGMV, HPMV) — yes, you need a Form 5 certificate from a MORTH-accredited school (4-week minimum course).

+Each RTO has slightly different layouts. The portal-listed "test components" are the maximum; the inspector decides what to test on the day. Always be ready for figure-of-8, gradient, and (where present) parallel parking.
+**Q. Can I apply for DL in a state different from where I have LL?**\\
+Generally no — the DL test must be at an RTO under the same state as the LL. If you've moved, transfer the LL using Form 33 first.
