SSC GD Constable — stages, standards and appeals (2026)

The 2026 cycle at a glance

- Vacancies: 25,487 in the notification dated 1 December 2025.
- Written exam (CBE): conducted 27 April to 30 May 2026 after a postponement; normalised marks and answer-key challenges precede the result, which was awaited at the time of writing.
- Physical and medical stages: conducted by the CAPFs, coordinated by CRPF; admit cards for each stage issue on the CRPF recruitment site around two weeks ahead.
- Final merit: CBE marks, subject to qualifying each physical and medical stage and document verification.
The stages in order
- CBE (computer-based exam) — 160 marks, four sections; normalisation applies across shifts. Answer keys and a challenge window follow before results.
- PET (physical efficiency test) — the race: male candidates 5 km in 24 minutes; female candidates 1.6 km in 8 minutes 30 seconds; relaxed standards apply for Ladakh-region candidates, and ex-servicemen are exempt.
- PST (physical standards test) — height 170 cm (male) / 157 cm (female) with relaxations for Scheduled Tribes and candidates from hill and border areas, per the notification's tables; chest standards apply to male candidates likewise.
- DME (detailed medical examination) — vision, hearing, blood pressure, BMI, and general fitness per CAPF medical standards.
- RME (review medical examination) — only for candidates declared unfit at DME who are called for review, within the window the boards fix.
- DV (document verification) — certificates of age, category, domicile; the final merit list follows.
Where you can appeal — and where you cannot
- PST appeal — same day, at the centre. The notification provides an appellate authority present at each PST centre; a candidate aggrieved by a measurement may appeal to it the same day through the presiding officer, and that decision is final. Ask for it on the spot — there is no later window.
- PET — no appeal. The race is run once; timing equipment and the board's record govern. Fair or not, the notice is explicit.
- Medical boards — no representation, no RTI, no CPGRAMS. The notice's terms bar representations, appeals, RTI applications and CPGRAMS grievances against PET/PST/DME/RME board decisions, because those boards belong to the CAPFs, not SSC. A serious procedural wrong can still be raised with the CRPF coordinating body in writing, but do not plan on the SSC route.

Rules candidates trip on
- Pregnancy — declared temporarily unfit; candidature is held in abeyance with a re-examination about six weeks after confinement, per the medical rules.
- Tattoos — only on body sites the notification permits, as per CAPF policy; visible sites outside the permitted list mean rejection at DME.
- Certificates at DV — category and domicile certificates must be in the prescribed proforma; wrong-format documents get deferred merit positions.
- Race-day footwear and track rules — follow the board's instructions exactly; disqualification is immediate and unappealable.
- E-admit cards — PET/PST/DME cards come from the CRPF site, not SSC; watch both portals.
Frequently asked questions
When will the 2026 result come?
After answer-key challenges close, SSC publishes normalised results — historically weeks, not months. Check ssc.gov.in; treat every “leaked date” as rumour.
Can I appeal a DME unfit?
Only through the RME route the board itself offers when it calls you; the notice bars other representations — so keep every medical paper the board hands you.
Do state quotas change the cut-off?
Yes — post- and state-wise allocation produces separate cut-offs; compare yours, not the all-India one.
