RTI deadline FAQs

Does the RTI reply deadline use calendar days or working days?

RTI reply limits are counted in calendar days. If the last day falls on a public holiday, the practical filing or response step is normally taken on the next working day.

When can I file a first appeal for no RTI reply?

If the PPIO or PIO does not reply by the Section 7 deadline, it is treated as deemed refusal under Section 7(2), and you can file a first appeal under Section 19(1).

Does an additional-fee notice change the deadline?

Yes. When the PIO asks for additional fee under Section 7(3), the period between fee intimation and fee payment is excluded from the reply deadline calculation.
