Each post-office scheme has a close cousin in the bank or mutual-fund world. The post-office option usually wins on safety (sovereign guarantee, not the DICGC's ₹5 lakh cap) and on rate. Side-by-side:
Postal Life Insurance (PLI) & Rural PLI
Beyond savings, India Post runs the country's oldest life insurer (since 1884). Premiums are typically 20–40% lower than comparable LIC or private cover for the same sum assured, and the policy is unconditionally backed by the Government of India.

FAQ
How does the planner decide the allocation?
A deterministic engine maps your inputs (amount, age, goal, liquidity) to scheme caps and lock-ins. It respects the MIS cap (₹9 lakh single / ₹15 lakh joint), the PPF and SSY yearly caps (₹1.5 lakh), the SCSS age requirement (60+) and the ₹1.5 lakh 80C limit.
Is my data stored anywhere?
Inputs stay in your browser for the calculation. When you tap Why this plan? we send only the anonymous plan summary (rupee amounts + scheme keys — no name, email, cookie, IP or fingerprint of you) to a small language model on our own server. The server caches that anonymous summary by a one-way hash for one hour. Standard Apache access logs record IP + URL per server defaults; we do not analyse them against your inputs.
Are the returns guaranteed?
Small-savings schemes carry sovereign guarantee on principal and interest. Rates are notified each quarter and can change; PPF and SSY re-set every quarter, others lock at investment date.
Can I tweak the plan after the persona auto-fills?
Yes — the form stays editable. Change any field and the plan recomputes instantly.
Is this the official India Post planner?
No. This is an educational tool by RTI Wiki. Always verify rates and rules before investing.
Privacy & AI
Math runs in your browser. Allocation, validation and chart computations never leave your device.
AI narrative is opt-in and on-server. Only the anonymous plan summary is sent to qwen2.5:3b-instruct running on the RTI Wiki server when you tap Why this plan?. Your data never goes to OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or any third-party AI cloud.
Numbers are checked. A faithfulness guard verifies every rupee figure the AI cites matches a number actually in your plan (within 5%) — else we fall back to a deterministic narrator. A small badge tells you which one wrote your explanation.
