How this planner works — and how AI fits in
1
Your inputs stay on your device. The slider, age, goal, liquidity and persona choice never leave the browser for the calculation.
2
A deterministic engine picks the allocation. Pure JavaScript rules — not AI — apply the SCSS ₹30L cap, MIS ₹15L joint cap, PPF / SSY ₹1.5L yearly cap, the 80C ₹1.5L ceiling and the age-60 SCSS rule. The math is auditable in postal-planner-engine.js.
3
AI writes the plain-English narrative. When you tap Why this plan? we send only the anonymous plan summary (amounts + scheme keys — no name, email, cookie, IP or fingerprint) to a small language model (qwen2.5:3b-instruct) running on the same RTI Wiki server. Your data never travels to OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Groq or any third-party AI cloud.
4
A numeric-faithfulness guard checks the AI. Before the narrative reaches you, we extract every rupee figure the model mentioned and verify each one matches a number that's actually in your plan (within 5%). If the AI invented a figure, we discard the narrative and use a deterministic narrator instead. You'll see a small badge above the explanation telling you which one wrote it.
5
Cached briefly, then forgotten. Identical plan summaries are cached by a hash for one hour so we don't ask the LLM the same question twice — the cache is keyed by the hash, not by you. There is no login, no account, no analytics on your inputs, no third-party tracker pulled in by this page.
Privacy at a glance · Calculation: 100% in your browser · AI narrative: optional, on-server only · Nothing about you is stored, ever · Math + prompt are open in the page source
How post-office schemes compare with bank & market alternatives

Each post-office scheme has a close cousin in the bank or mutual-fund world. The post-office option usually wins on safety (sovereign guarantee, not the DICGC's ₹5 lakh cap) and on rate. Side-by-side:

Postal Life Insurance (PLI) & Rural PLI

Beyond savings, India Post runs the country's oldest life insurer (since 1884). Premiums are typically 20–40% lower than comparable LIC or private cover for the same sum assured, and the policy is unconditionally backed by the Government of India.
