Aadhaar Update — Document Checklist
Pick what you want to update, then carry the proofs from the matching list. Originals are required for verification at the centre.
What you want to update — tick
- Name
- Address
- Date of birth
- Mobile number
- Photograph
- Biometric (fingerprint / iris)
Proof of Identity (PoI) — for name updates
- PAN card
- Passport
- Voter ID
- Driving licence
- Government-issued photo ID (employee / pensioner ID)
- Marksheet from a recognised board / university (with photo)
Proof of Address (PoA) — for address updates
- Passport
- Bank statement / passbook (latest)
- Electricity / water / gas / telephone bill (within last 3 months)
- Rent agreement (registered)
- Voter ID
- Driving licence
Proof of Date of Birth (DoB)
- Birth certificate
- SSLC / 10th marksheet showing DoB
- Passport
- PAN card
- Government-issued ID showing DoB
Before you go to the Aadhaar centre
- Carry originals + one self-attested photocopy of each proof.
- Keep the old Aadhaar / EID slip.
- Carry your registered mobile number — OTP is needed for many flows.
- Note the fee (small fee for update, free for biometric of children at 5/15 years).
- Get the Update Request Number (URN) slip before you leave.
After update
- Track the URN on uidai.gov.in ("Check Aadhaar update status").
- Download the updated e-Aadhaar once status shows complete.
- Re-link it where it matters (bank, PAN-Aadhaar, DigiLocker, EPFO, gas, scheme).
