PM-Kisan 20th Instalment 2026: Date, eKYC and Status

By Dr. Shrawan Kumar Pathak

A farmer checks PM-Kisan beneficiary status on a mobile phone outside a CSC centre in India.

Quick answer. The PM-Kisan 20th instalment was already paid. The government released it on 2 August 2025, when the Prime Minister transferred the money from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Each eligible farmer got Rs 2,000. So if you are searching for the 20th instalment in 2026, that payment is in the past.

What matters now is the next instalment. As of 30 June 2026, the latest released instalment is the 23rd, paid on 20 June 2026 from Tarakeswar in West Bengal. The amount was again Rs 2,000 per farmer.

eKYC and land-seeding readiness checklist

This is the most important part. Do these checks before the next instalment date. If even one is missing, your Rs 2,000 can stop.

1. Complete your eKYC. eKYC is mandatory for all registered PM-Kisan farmers. The official portal says: “eKYC is MANDATORY for PMKISAN Registered Farmers. OTP Based eKYC is available on PMKISAN Portal or nearest CSC centres may be contacted for Biometric based eKYC.” You have two ways:

2. Seed your bank account with Aadhaar. The money comes by Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). For DBT to work, your Aadhaar must be linked and “seeded” with your bank account in the NPCI system. A bank account that only has Aadhaar in the form is not enough. Ask your bank to confirm DBT seeding is active.

3. Check your land record. Your land must be recorded in your name. If a mutation is pending after a sale, gift, or death in the family, fix it at your local land office. The portal also flags one rule: farmers who got land only after 1 February 2019 are treated as a special case and may be marked for review.

4. Confirm you are not in an excluded group. The scheme leaves out higher-income people. Per pmkisan.gov.in, these are not eligible:

5. Match your name spelling. Your name on Aadhaar, bank, and the land record should match. A small spelling difference can hold your payment.

If all five are clear, you are ready for the next instalment.

How to check your beneficiary and payment status

You can check your own status free of cost. The official portal gives three ways:

  1. “Know Your Status” on the portal. Go to pmkisan.gov.in, open the “Know Your Status” page, enter your registration number or mobile number, and see your instalment history and any error.
  2. PM-Kisan mobile app. Download the official app and check status, eKYC, and your list.
  3. Kisan eMitra chatbot. This is the official chatbot on the portal. It answers common questions about your payment.

If the status shows an error like “eKYC not done”, “Aadhaar not seeded”, or “Account not validated”, fix that exact problem first. The payment usually follows after the next cycle.

The government sends money to crores of accounts at once. So after a release date it can take a few hours, or even a couple of days, for the amount to show in every account. Do not panic on day one.

How the PM-Kisan cycle works

PM-Kisan gives Rs 6,000 per year to eligible land-holding farmer families. It comes in three instalments of Rs 2,000, paid roughly every four months. So in one year you should see three payments if your records are clean.

Because the cycle is about four months apart, the dates move a little each year. The 20th instalment was in August 2025. The 23rd was on 20 June 2026. The government announces each date on the official portal and through PIB. We do not state a future date here unless it is officially announced. Always confirm the next date on pmkisan.gov.in.

What to do if your money is wrongly held

Sometimes everything looks correct but the money still does not come. First, recheck the five points in the checklist. Then:

Frequently asked questions

When was the PM-Kisan 20th instalment released?

The 20th instalment was released on 2 August 2025. The Prime Minister transferred it from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Each eligible farmer got Rs 2,000.

What is the latest PM-Kisan instalment in 2026?

As of 30 June 2026, the latest released instalment is the 23rd. It was paid on 20 June 2026 from Tarakeswar, West Bengal, again at Rs 2,000 per farmer.

When is the next PM-Kisan instalment due?

The next date is not yet officially announced. Instalments come about every four months, so the next one is expected a few months after the last release. Always confirm the exact date on pmkisan.gov.in or a PIB notice. Do not trust any unofficial date.

Is eKYC compulsory for PM-Kisan?

Yes. The official portal states eKYC is mandatory for all registered farmers. You can do OTP-based eKYC on the portal, or biometric eKYC at a CSC centre. Without eKYC, the Rs 2,000 is not credited.

How do I check if I will get the next instalment?

Use the “Know Your Status” page on pmkisan.gov.in, the PM-Kisan mobile app, or the Kisan eMitra chatbot. Confirm your eKYC is done, your bank is Aadhaar-seeded, and your name is in the beneficiary list.

Why was my PM-Kisan instalment not credited?

Common reasons are pending eKYC, an account that is not Aadhaar-seeded, a name mismatch, a land record problem, or being in an excluded group. Check your status, find the exact error, and fix that point first.
