Quick answer. Most EPS pensioners download the Pension Payment Order free from DigiLocker: log in, search the issuer Employees Provident Fund Organisation, open the Pension Certificate, and enter your PPO number plus the last 4 digits of your pension bank account. The PPO PDF appears once your date of birth and bank account match Aadhaar against the pension record. No PPO number yet? Use Know Your PPO Number on the EPFO pensioner portal first.
This is a cheat-sheet, not an essay. Find your situation, follow that row, done. Keep your UAN, PPO number and the bank account where your pension lands within reach before you start.
EPFO has placed EPS pensioners' Pension Payment Orders on DigiLocker, on both the app and the website.
The PPO is released only when your date of birth and the last four digits of your pension bank account match your Aadhaar against the EPFO pension record. Make sure the mobile number registered with your Aadhaar is current, as DigiLocker uses it for the eKYC OTP. If the details do not match, get the EPFO pension record corrected first, then retry. If your UAN is not yet active and you need it for other EPFO services, see our guide to activate your UAN.
No PPO number to quote to the bank? You do not need the full document to get the number.
Use this number to check your pension status on the EPFO pension enquiry page (mis.epfindia.gov.in), where you select your office, office ID and PPO number to see whether your pension is sanctioned and paid.
Pick the right counter so you do not wait at the wrong one.
Figure: step-by-step flow. If a step stalls, use the grievance or RTI route shown.
If DigiLocker keeps refusing, the PPO number will not trace, or the pension office sits silent:
If your monthly pension itself has not started or the amount looks wrong, that is a Form 10D or sanction issue, not a download issue, and you should read our guide on EPS pension Form 10D or, for a long pending case, EPS higher pension stuck on appeal.
When a pensioner passes away, the family member named in the PPO can claim family pension, and the PPO is the document that proves the entitlement. Keep a downloaded copy safe. For the full claim path, see family pension after a spouse's death.
Yes. Every official channel, DigiLocker, the EPFO pensioner portal and UMANG, gives the PPO and PPO number free. No genuine government site charges a fee to download your own Pension Payment Order, so treat any payment demand as a red flag.
Use Know Your PPO Number on the EPFO Pensioner Portal. Enter either your pension bank account number or your PF or member ID, and the portal returns your PPO number, member ID and pension type. Then use that number to download or to check status.
DigiLocker releases the PPO only when your date of birth and the last four digits of your pension bank account match your Aadhaar against the EPFO pension record. Check that you entered the correct PPO number and bank digits, that the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar is current, and get any mismatch in the EPFO pension record corrected, then retry the pull.
The DigiLocker route verifies you by matching your Aadhaar (name, date of birth) and bank details against the EPFO pension record. If they do not match and you cannot get the record corrected in time, ask your EPFO regional office for a certified PPO copy through EPFiGMS or an RTI, quoting your member ID and pension bank account.
Usually no. NPS members are identified by a PRAN and download statements and exit papers from the CRA at npscra.nsdl.co.in. A PPO is the EPS and government pension document, not an ordinary NPS one, so check which scheme paid you before you search.
Use the pension status enquiry on the EPFO MIS page at mis.epfindia.gov.in. Select your office, office ID and PPO number to see whether the pension is sanctioned and credited. From January 2025, EPS pension is paid through any bank branch under the centralised system, so confirm the figure in the verified portal before raising a dispute.
Yes. File an RTI with the public information officer of your EPFO regional office asking for your PPO number on record, the current status and the reason for any delay. A dated, specific RTI creates a deadline the office must answer and often clears a stuck file faster than a routine reminder.
