Documents required for passport renewal — 2026 checklist

• Old passport — Original + photocopy of first 2 + last 2 pages + ECR/ECNR + observation pages
• Aadhaar — Identity verification
• Current address proof — Aadhaar / Voter ID / Electricity bill (≤1 year)
• Two recent photographs — 4.5 × 3.5 cm, white background, taken within 6 months
• Annexure F (declaration) — For Tatkal re-issue
• Updated personal details documents — Marriage certificate (surname change), gazette (name correction), divorce decree (reverting name)

• Annexure I (verification) — For Tatkal — by 2 known persons with valid IDs
• Birth certificate — For minor passport renewal
• Marriage certificate — For surname change post-marriage
• Divorce decree — For divorced applicants
• Affidavit on Rs. 10 stamp paper — For specific scenarios (lost passport replacement, etc.)
• NOC from employer — For govt employees

• Renewal vs Re-issue vs Reset: Renewal = expired passport. Re-issue = damaged/lost/changes in personal details. Reset = full rebuild.
• Apply 12 months before expiry OR up to 12 months after expiry — both treated as re-issue.
• Beyond 12 months expired = treated as fresh passport application; full document set + PV again.
• Tatkal Re-issue Rs. 3,500: 1-3 days. Normal Rs. 1,500: 15 days.
• No PV needed for normal re-issue if previous PV was clean (typical).
• Address change during renewal triggers fresh PV at new address.
