Mandatory documents
Old passport — Original + photocopy of first 2 + last 2 pages + ECR/ECNR + observation pages
Aadhaar — Identity verification
Current address proof — Aadhaar / Voter ID / Electricity bill (≤1 year)
Two recent photographs — 4.5 × 3.5 cm, white background, taken within 6 months
Annexure B (verification certificate) — For Tatkal re-issue
Updated personal details documents — Marriage certificate (surname change), gazette (name correction), divorce decree (reverting name)

Annexure F (declaration) — For re-issue in lieu of a lost or damaged passport
Birth certificate — For minor passport renewal
Marriage certificate — For surname change post-marriage
Divorce decree — For divorced applicants

Specifications + key rules
Renewal vs Re-issue: same official process. “Renewal” (everyday word) = re-issue on expiry; re-issue also covers damaged or lost passports and changes in personal details.
Apply for re-issue as expiry nears — re-issue applies both before and after expiry.
Long-expired passports are still re-issued on the old passport, but expect police verification at the current address.
Tatkal Re-issue Rs. 5,000-6,000: 1-3 days. Normal Rs. 2,500-3,500: 15 days (fees revised 1 July 2026).
No PV needed for normal re-issue if previous PV was clean (typical).
Address change during renewal triggers fresh PV at new address.
