Travel, passport and NRI documents guides

Reviewed on: 2026-06-12.

Start here if your problem is a document you need to cross a border, or something that went wrong at the airport. This category covers passports, including the hard cases such as a child's passport when one parent will not sign, visa paperwork and the agents who forge it, attestation and apostille of certificates for use abroad, and disputes with airlines over names, boarding and baggage. If your problem is an asset sitting in India while you live abroad, a frozen NRI account or stuck land mutation, that belongs in NRI and cross-border instead.

Two different worlds of remedies meet in this category, so know which one you are in. The passport side is government: Passport Seva Kendras, the Regional Passport Officer, passport adalats and CPGRAMS, and because the Ministry of External Affairs is a public authority, RTI reaches the file on a stuck or refused application. The airline side is commercial: airlines are private companies outside RTI, and the route runs through the airline's grievance cell, the DGCA's AirSewa portal, and the consumer commission through e-Daakhil when money is at stake. The guides below tell you which world your problem sits in, and the exact next step.
