Agriculture and rural guides

Reviewed on: 2026-06-12.

This category covers problems that start at the tehsil office, the revenue department, or the village ration shop. Two themes run through it. First, agricultural land records: mutation after inheritance, conversion of farm land to non-agricultural use, and survey errors that show your plot as government land. Second, rural welfare delivery: ration, LPG subsidy, pension, and Direct Benefit Transfer payments that fail because of Aadhaar seeding or authentication errors.

These problems share one advantage. Almost every authority involved is a public authority under the RTI Act. The tehsildar, the sub-divisional magistrate, the district collector, the state land records department, the food and civil supplies department, and UIDAI all have Public Information Officers. When a file sits without movement, an RTI asking for the file status, the officer responsible, and the reason for delay often moves it. Many states also have a services guarantee act that fixes a deadline for mutation and conversion orders, with penalties on the officer for delay.

Each guide below names the exact authority, the form, the timeline, and the escalation ladder for one problem. Start with the guide that matches your situation.
