How to apply for PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi

Farmer in a field checking a PM-KISAN instalment credit on a mobile phone - RTI Wiki

PM-KISAN pays ₹6,000 a year in three ₹2,000 instalments to a landholding farmer family. Registration is on pmkisan.gov.in. The two usual blockers are pending eKYC and land that is not seeded to your name.

₹6,000 a year, and the two blockers

PM-KISAN is a Central Sector scheme of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. It has been operational from 1 December 2018. The government pays ₹6,000 per year in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 by DBT into an Aadhaar-seeded bank account.

Family on the scheme page means husband, wife, and minor children. That unit gets one benefit, not one benefit per adult.

Money stops for two reasons more often than any other:

  1. eKYC is not done. The portal, the PM-KISAN app, and CSC logins all treat eKYC as mandatory. OTP on an Aadhaar-linked mobile is one route. Biometric eKYC is available at CSC VLE logins, the mobile app, and state authorised user logins.
  2. Land is not seeded to your name. The central PM-KISAN database must match the state revenue record: khasra, khatauni, 7/12, pahani, patta, or jamabandi, as your state names it. If the old khata still shows a parent or a joint holder the portal does not expect, the instalment is held.

Fix those two before you assume the scheme has “missed the 18th installment”. Always read the latest instalment on the portal. This page does not treat any instalment number as current.

Blocker What the status often shows What to do
eKYC pending Instalment held; eKYC not complete OTP eKYC on portal or app, or biometric eKYC at a CSC
Land not seeded Land seeding No / name mismatch Take the land extract and Aadhaar to the patwari / tehsildar
Bank or Aadhaar Payment failed, mapper or seeding issue Seed Aadhaar at the bank; keep one account
Exclusion flag Inactive or ineligible Read the scheme exclusions; correct a wrong flag with proof

Register on pmkisan.gov.in

New farmers use Farmers Corner → New Farmer Registration on pmkisan.gov.in. The live form is Aadhaar-authenticated. Self-registration is the government route. A CSC can type the same form if you do not have a smartphone.

Verb-led steps

  1. Choose New Farmer Registration.
  2. Authenticate with Aadhaar OTP on the mobile linked to Aadhaar.
  3. Select state, district, and village.
  4. Enter name as on Aadhaar, bank account, and land details: survey / khasra number and area as on the revenue extract.
  5. Submit. Note the registration / farmer ID the portal shows.
  6. Complete eKYC the same day if the menu offers it.
  7. Ask the patwari or tehsil revenue staff to seed the land if self-entry fails a land match.

If self-registration returns a land mismatch, stop retrying the same wrong survey number. Take the paper 7/12, khatauni, or patta to the revenue counter and let them push the seeded record.

You also need Aadhaar with a working mobile for OTP. If the Aadhaar mobile is dead, use biometric or face eKYC instead of waiting on SMS.

PM-KISAN registration path

① Register on pmkisan.gov.in with Aadhaar → ② Enter land and bank details → ③ Complete eKYC → ④ Get land seeded to your name → ⑤ Check beneficiary status for the latest instalment

Who is excluded

The scheme page lists higher economic status exclusions. In short, PM-KISAN is for landholding farmer families who are not in those groups. The official list includes:

Tenant farmers and cultivators whose name is not on the land record are not the target group. Mutation in your name comes first. See property mutation if the record still shows a deceased holder.

The portal currently flags some cases for physical verification, including examples on the homepage such as land acquired after 1 February 2019, or more than one family member drawing the benefit. Check Know Your Status rather than assuming a permanent ban.

If you are not eligible, do not register. Wrong claims are recovered.

Status check and the latest instalment

Do not wait for a neighbour's SMS about an “18th installment”. Open the portal.

  1. Open Know Your Status / Beneficiary Status (Farmers Corner).
  2. Enter Aadhaar, mobile, or registration number as the form allows.
  3. Read eKYC, land seeding, bank, and each instalment row.
  4. Treat the latest instalment shown there as the current picture.

Direct status URL used on the live site: BeneficiaryStatus_New.aspx. Self-registered / CSC farmer status has its own Farmers Corner link.

If status is Active and eKYC is done but money is missing, the next place is the bank: Aadhaar seeding and the destination account. If status is Inactive or land seeding is No, the next place is the tehsil, not a new online form.

Apply through a CSC

A Common Service Centre can file New Farmer Registration, run biometric eKYC, and help you read status. That is useful when OTP never arrives.

Ask the VLE to use the official PM-KISAN / CSC login, not a private “kisan app”. You should see your name on pmkisan.gov.in afterwards. If they only collect photocopies and never generate a farmer ID, they did not register you.

Registration on the government portal is free. If a centre charges for typing or biometric use, take a receipt. You can still do OTP eKYC yourself at home.

The official PM Kisan mobile app is listed from the portal's Farmers Corner. Use it for status and for the eKYC methods the app currently shows.

Frequently asked questions

How to apply for PM Kisan?

Open pmkisan.gov.in, use New Farmer Registration, authenticate with Aadhaar, enter land and bank details, then finish eKYC. A CSC can file the same form. Land must stand in the family's name.

What is pmkisan.gov.in used for?

It is the only official PM-KISAN site for registration, eKYC, beneficiary status, mobile update, and related farmer-corner tools. Do not use lookalike domains.

What is PM-KISAN eKYC?

A mandatory Aadhaar-based KYC. Do it by OTP on the portal or app, or by biometric / face method at a CSC or on the app. Without eKYC, instalments stay held.

When is the 18th installment of PM-KISAN?

Ignore forwarded messages that lock an instalment number. Open beneficiary status and read the latest instalment on the portal. Release dates are announced by the ministry on that site.

How do I check PM-KISAN status?

Farmers Corner → Know Your Status / Beneficiary Status, or the status URL on pmkisan.gov.in. Enter Aadhaar, mobile, or registration number. See PM-KISAN status check 2026.

Can I apply at a CSC?

Yes. Take Aadhaar, bank passbook, and the land extract. Confirm later that your farmer ID appears on pmkisan.gov.in.

Why did my instalment stop?

Most often eKYC pending, land not seeded, Aadhaar-bank mismatch, or an exclusion flag. Read the status fields, fix the matching blocker, then RTI if the office does not move.
