When to call

Second appeal under §19(3)

Within 90 days of FAA decision OR expiry of 30/45-day FAA timeline. Free.

Penalty complaint under §20

Against PIO for unjustified delay/denial. Up to Rs 25,000.

§18 complaint

Against public authority for not designating PIO / not providing reasonable assistance.

Suo-moto cases

CIC can take cognizance of systemic non-compliance.

If the helpline does not resolve — file an RTI

Helplines often log a complaint without solving it. RTI gives you the file noting + officer name + actual reasoning, and most stuck cases clear within 7-15 days.

1. Status of my complaint / application no. _____ dated _____ as on date.
2. Name + designation of the officer assigned to my file.
3. Reasons for delay beyond the statutory timeline.
4. Copy of any noting / movement of my file in the past 30 days.
