Online RTIs only for central government PAs (60+ ministries + their subordinate offices). State RTIs use state portals.
What the form needs
- Register at rtionline.gov.in (one-time)
- Select Ministry / Department from drop-down
- Type RTI text in form (max 3,000 chars)
- Pay Rs 10 via card / netbanking / UPI
- Get registration number immediately
- Track at “View Status”

Rs 10. BPL exempt with proof.

30 days under §7(1).
Tips + common mistakes
- Only for CENTRAL ministries — not state PAs
- Single payment, no DD / IPO needed
- Auto-redirect if subject is state PA (rare)
- PIO replies via email + portal upload
If submitted form is rejected / delayed — file an RTI
Forms get “lost”, “incomplete”, “wrong section” — RTI brings out the actual file noting and officer name, which usually resolves the issue within 15 days.
