RTI fee in Uttarakhand — the verified 2026 schedule

The Uttarakhand Information Commission publishes a plain how-to-apply guide on its website, and it is that guide — not forum folklore — which sets out the fee. Read together with the RTI Act, this is what a Uttarakhand applicant actually pays.

• Application fee — ₹10, and the Commission's guidance lists four accepted modes:
  1. cash, if you deliver the application by hand — take a receipt
  2. demand draft
  3. Indian Postal Order
  4. a ₹10 non-judicial stamp paper — in which case the application itself can be written or typed on the stamp paper
• Further charges for copies or inspection, if the PIO invokes Section 7(3), are intimated to you in writing before they fall due. Ask the PIO for the rule and the arithmetic with the intimation

• Second appeal to the Commission — no fee
• BPL applicants — nothing at any stage, under Section 7(5) of the Act, with a copy of the certificate

If a Uttarakhand office demands an application fee above ₹10, or a fee for an appeal, it is acting outside the published schedule.

• By post: to the PIO of the concerned public authority, with a ₹10 IPO or demand draft
• In person: cash across the counter against a stamped receipt
• Second appeals and complaints: through the Commission at uic.uk.in, which runs online submission for second appeals and complaints alongside hearing schedules and orders

For a state public authority, use the state routes above. For a Central office located in Uttarakhand — a post office, an income-tax office, a nationalised bank — the ₹10 Central schedule and rtionline.gov.in apply, not the state route.

Real example. Kashvi Pathak needed a forest-department file note from Haldwani before a land auction. She filed on the state portal, paid ₹10 by UPI, and when the reply stalled past 30 days filed her first appeal the same day — free — through the portal. The file note arrived in the next three weeks. Total cost: ₹10 and two screens of typing.
