SSC CHSL — result, answer key and record disputes via RTI

The Combined Higher Secondary Level examination recruits for posts open to the 10+2 qualified, and it runs at a scale — lakhs of candidates, multi-shift papers, normalized marks — where a single administrative lag can hold up a result for everyone in a region. The candidate's tools are limited and specific: the representation window while the answer key is live, the notices page while the result is pending, and the RTI when neither moves.

SSC publishes the tentative answer key after each computer-based tier and opens a challenge window on the portal for a short, dated period. This is the only official channel to dispute a question or key:

• Check the key against your recorded responses on the dashboard, note question IDs you contest, and pay the per-question challenge fee as stated in the notice.
• If SSC accepts a challenge, the key is revised for all candidates — the corrected key is final and feeds the result.
• After the window closes, individual re-evaluation of answer sheets is not offered; what remains is the record — and the record answers to RTI.

Marks, cut-offs and normalization methodology are held by a public authority and are not covered by any Section 8 exemption as applied to a candidate's own evaluation.

Real example. Kashvi Pathak's Tier-I marks, released months after the result, showed a normalized score inconsistent with her recorded responses. The RTI above produced the question-wise record; a transposition error in one shift's normalization input was conceded and the record corrected — not as a favour, but because the file said so.

• No reply in 30 days — first appeal to the FAA in the Commission under Section 19(1), free, within 30 days of the silence.
• FAA silent 45 days — second appeal to the Central Information Commission under Section 19(3), within 90 days.
• Service disputes — for issues beyond records, the marks-moderation route is done; the courts under writ jurisdiction are the last forum, and the RTI file is what makes a writ petition concrete.

There is no re-totalling window after results; the official record route is RTI for your question-wise and normalized marks, then appeal on any discrepancy it shows.

Evaluation is machine-read and moderated shift-wise; candidates dispute the key in the challenge window, and the record thereafter — not a manual re-evaluation.
