Quick answer. The e-Shram card does not pay you a monthly pension. It does not send monthly cash to your bank account. This is the most common myth. The e-Shram card is only a free registration for unorganised workers. It gives you a Universal Account Number (UAN) and adds you to one national database. It does not pay money on its own.

Many people think the e-Shram card itself sends a monthly pension or a fixed cash amount. This is wrong. The official e-Shram FAQ is clear: “Right now, only registration is being done through e-Shram.” So the card does not pay you money by itself.
Here is what e-Shram really gives you:
One scheme linked to e-Shram is the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). This is accident insurance. It can pay up to Rs 2 lakh for accidental death or full disability, and up to Rs 1 lakh for partial disability. This is an insurance claim after an accident. It is not a monthly payment.
The pension myth often comes from the PM-SYM scheme. PM-SYM is a separate pension scheme. It is voluntary. You must opt in and pay a small monthly contribution yourself. The government then matches your contribution one-to-one. Only then do you get a Rs 3,000 monthly pension after age 60. e-Shram registration alone does not enrol you in PM-SYM and does not start any pension. See Atal Pension Yojana for a similar contributory pension.
So if you registered for e-Shram and no money has come, that is normal. e-Shram was never meant to pay you directly. Some states do run their own welfare schemes for workers in their state database. But that is a state decision and a state payment. It is not the e-Shram card paying you on its own. Always check your own state labour or welfare board for any state benefit.
Be careful about agents and fake messages. No one should ask you for money to “release” an e-Shram pension. There is no such pension to release. Do not share your OTP with anyone. The e-Shram card is free, and checking it is free.
You do not need an agent to check your status. Do it yourself for free.
If your details are wrong or your card will not download, do not pay anyone to fix it. Call the helpline 14434 first. Only the official portal eshram.gov.in is genuine.
A few common status problems and what they mean:
Keep a clear record. Note your UAN, the date you registered, and any complaint number. This record helps a lot if you later need to escalate a problem.
If your problem is not solved, move up one step at a time. Keep your UAN and complaint number ready.
If your problem is about an employer, unpaid wages, or PF, that is a different track. Use the Labour department complaint route, not the e-Shram helpline.
No. The e-Shram card does not pay a monthly pension or salary by itself. It is only a free registration and UAN. Pension comes from a separate scheme like PM-SYM, which you must join and pay into.
No, this is normal. e-Shram does not send money on its own. It only registers you and links you to schemes. Those schemes pay benefits under their own rules.
e-Shram links registered workers to PMSBY accident insurance. It can pay up to Rs 2 lakh for accidental death or full disability and up to Rs 1 lakh for partial disability. It is a claim after an accident, not a monthly payment.
The official e-Shram helpdesk is 14434 or 1800-889-6811. It works daily including Sundays, from 9.00 AM to 6.00 PM, in many Indian languages.
First call 14434. If it is not solved, raise an online complaint at gms.eshram.gov.in and save the grievance number. If still not solved, escalate through CPGRAMS.
Yes. e-Shram is run by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. The only official website is eshram.gov.in.
